It also forbid anyone who owned, possessed, or wore a firearm shirt from selling or giving away any of their firearms to another person without getting prior consent from the police department that monitored such activities. Despite this regulation, some people continued to wear firearms t-shirts out onto the public sidewalks and even into homes during peaceful protests against government policy changes back then. Some people considered this type of activism as constitutionally protected free speech and believe that these shirts are still worth wearing today despite current law prohibiting them from doing so.

Lomita started as an agricultural community in 1881 and grew with the creation of the Imperial Valley Railroad in 1911. The town became a major tourist destination with its beautiful beaches, clean air, and natural resources. In 1964 Lomita voters approved Measure M which created a city charter and made it an unincorporated town within San Diego County with full municipal powers. In 1978 Lomita voters approved Measure J which granted cityhood to Lomitas residents and changed its name to a city after being selected as one of five finalists for the Cities program administered by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Lomita is located on Interstate 805 northbound just south of I-805's exit for SR 108 (the old Saugus Rd.) The CDP has an area total of , making it smallest in size but largest within San Diego County at . According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total population of 5,971 people. The racial makeup of this cdp was 3,868 White; 3,291 Black or African American; 2 Hispanics or Latinos; 375 Asian Pacific Islander; 9 Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander

Lomita is a small town located in Inyo County, California, about an hour east of Los Angeles. It is the easternmost outpost of the Mojave Desert and was founded by Mormon pioneers in 1848 as part of the Great Salt Lake Valley settlement. The name comes from Spanish for "tooth" or "mouth." Lomita's economy revolves around agriculture and ranching. Today, Lomita has a population of over 1,000 people who primarily live within its boundaries. Agriculture has been the primary focus of the town since it was founded, with crops such as wheat, cotton and alfalfa being grown here today. The area now known as Lomita was first inhabited by Native Americans before European colonization began. The Tongva tribe lived here for many years before they were pushed out by settlers in 1847. In 1848, Mormon pioneers arrived in what is now Lomita after traveling through much of what is now California. They named their new community La Veta after President George Washington's estate at Mount Vernon near Charlottesville, Virginia. The town quickly thrived due to its location between two major gold rushes – the Soquel-Anza Expedition in 1850 and later mining operations at Santa Barbara – and its close proximity to both settlements. In 1861–1862, during American Civil War II (the Mexican-American War), Lomita took part in skirmishes with Ulysses S. Grant's army along side other towns on the Mojave Desert periphery including Geronimo’s stronghold at Gila Bend and Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad Depot west of present day Palm Springs . Today most residents are self-employed farmers or ranchers who rely heavily on irrigation water from nearby Mountain Lakes reservoir which provides about two-thirds of their total local needs . Agricultural production includes hay, cotton, oats, barley and potatoes; grazing includes sheep and cattle; sugarcane farming also occurs Hereford cattle are raised for beef
