Lomita, California is a small city located in the Central Coast of California. The population was 8,554 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lomita has been populated for over 10,000 years and is thought to be one of the oldest cities in America. The first European to visit Lomita was Hernando de Soto on July 29, 1540. He named it La Jolla because he saw a hill called hills Los Menores (the smaller ones) from his ship while sailing along the coast of southern California. In 1846, when Mexico gained independence from Spain, they decided to name their new country Californias after their old Spanish colony in New Spain. So Lomita became Californias second city after Santa Fe de Butte Valley which had been its original capital since 1769. It wasn't until 1896 that Lomita actually got its own city charter making it an official municipality within San Diego County! In 1924, during World War II, Lomita played host to both United States Naval Air Station (now Naval Base Coronado) and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar as parts of Marine Corps Tactical Air Service Command during World War II; these installations were used for training pilots and commanders who would lead Allied air forces into battle later in the war when those same facilities became operational as UCAF airfields! After World War II ended, Lomita experienced some growth due to military retirees moving back in and businesses opening up; however there was also some decay taking place with many homes being abandoned or becoming dilapidated over time. In 1984 the City Council passed an ordinance allowing for limited development within city limits without prior approval from the Mayor or City Manager; this allowed for churches and other nonprofit organizations to build housing within city limits which enjoyed tax breaks and zoning changes allowing them more density insidecity boundaries than what had previously been allowed! This led to rapid development by these organizations which soon displaced much of the earlier deprecated architecture with many high-rise buildings now standing today including two iconic towers known as "The Lady Tower" (the first tower built before 1966) and "The President Tower". Today's downtown area is home to several large shopping malls (including Macy's), restaurants, hotels/motels, offices/businesses as well as a School District headquarters building - all dating back to at least the early 1990s!
