Loma Linda University, located in Northern California's Silicon Valley, is one of the world's leading research universities. Today, SOS offers opportunities for undergraduate students majoring in optical sciences or engineering to work on their research projects with faculty members from other departments at SOS while also having access to many resources available on campus including laboratories and library facilities that are open 24/7/365!

Since its incorporation into Los Angeles County as a city on December 4, 1959, Loma Linda has experienced significant growth and change within its boundaries; including several major annexation events such as that of neighboring Irvine and Anaheim Hills during 1990s and 2000s respectively The current mayor is Dianne Feinstein with term set for 2024-2028

Loma Linda University was founded in 1888 as a women's college. It became a coeducational institution in 1912. In 1966, it merged with the California State College at San Bernardino to become Loma Linda University-California State College.
