There have been many shootings in Loma Linda, California over the years. One of the most infamous was the shooting at San Quentin Prison that took place on December 5th, 1969. The attacker, Richard " Sailor" Klebold, killed four people and injured 23 others before killing himself. The first shooting to occur in Loma Linda was on October 1st, 1911 when a man named Harry Cox shot and killed two men at the local grocery store. The first report of gunfire in Loma Linda came about five days later when a bullet hit a post near First Street and Elm Street. On January 25th, 1912 three shots were fired outside of the nickels building next to the barn on Second Street. On July 6th 1913 an unknown person opened fire inside of a barbershop located at 501 N Main St., killing one man and injuring nine others before leaving the scene. On October 28th 1913 two gunmen burst into the Hooters restaurant located at 711 S Main St., fatally wounding two employees before running away with no arrests made. On November 6th 1914 three shots were fired by mistake from an empty gun holster inside of a clothing store located at 601 W Main St., striking one customer who sustained non-life threatening injuries but no fatalities resulted from this shooting spree which is still considered as one of Loma Linda’s more notorious incidents

Loma Linda (formerly known as Loma Prieta) is a small town in Contra Costa County, California. The population was 11,752 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of San Pablo Bay and southeast of Oakland. The first European to visit Loma Linda was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on October 20, 1542. He named it San Francisco de los Angeles after his hometown of Santa Fe in New Mexico. A mission called Mission Concepción was founded in 1821 by Franciscan missionaries under the leadership of Junípero Serra and includes portions of today's Loma Linda campus. In 1846, part of Rancho El Sobrante became part of Los Angeles County when Mexico ceded it to the United States as part of the Treaty Of Guadalupe Hidalgo. Loma Linda received its current name in 1872 when Governor John Dibble assigned two pieces of land totaling 154 acres (69 hectares) to be known as "Lombardia" after Jens Ludwig Ludvig Sverdrup, who had been given an donation for that purpose by Danish immigrants who settled in California during the Gold Rush era. The town began accepting residents on May 1, 1875 with a population of 275; growth continued through annexation by Berkeley and then Richmond counties until 1905 when Contra Costa County was created from parts of thosetwo counties plus Alameda and Marin Counties. In 1909, Concord College opened its doors here with a large Beaux Arts building designed by architect Charles Fenton which still stands as one-half mile away from Main Street cornering Alma Road near present day downtown Lomax Avenue/Concord Avenue
