Loma Linda (or "The Hill") is a small town in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 5,824 at the 2010 census. Loma Linda is part of the San Bernardino– Riverside metropolitan area. Loma Linda was founded by Angelsenos in 1887 as a girls' school, and became coeducational in 1896. It became an agricultural college in 1915 and then a university in 1923. In 1960 it merged with Claremont Colleges to form Loma Linda University. The name of the university changed again to Loma Linda University- Claremont on July 1, 1999. The town of Loma Linda is located on what was once an Indian Rancho de la Paz grant east of downtown San Bernardino County on the banks of the Whitewater River. The grant was given to José María Cámpora by Manuel Nieto in 1781 for his wife Nuestra Señora del Oro y Pico (Our Lady of Gold and Diamonds), who had been born into slavery at Montereyquila near modern-day Fillmore City; she had been freed during Mexican independence from Spain and moved to Los Angeles County with her children some time before that event. In 1887, when Angelseno College opened its doors for women students, many men also came to study there because it offered a way out from poverty or family responsibilities if they were unable or unwilling to continue their schooling after completing high school or working their way through college like most men at that time. A few years later Menlo Park's first woman graduate earned her degree from Angeleno: Alice Freeman Spelman who received her Baccalaureate degree magna cum laude in 1899 while living at home with her father and mother until he died suddenly two years later after giving her $3,000 towards tuition which she used to buy books for college; this event also marked the beginning of female enrollment at Menlo Park's first public institution of higher learning though not all women graduated from Angeleno School although Alice Freeman did receive a Master's degree from Stanford University). In 1915 the original faculty included six professors: four male lecturers and two female teachers; male students were then only admitted through admittance into one specific class which counted as upperclassmen status rather than being able to attend lectures/classes themselves like noways possible due largely to discrimination against men back then such as fields such as engineering where often only white males could achieve success however since 1965 both genders have been allowedfull access to all classes regardless their major without any stigma attached unlike today where women are still not fully integrated into American universities despite reaching parity overall with menmath etcetera although there has been occasional protests against this recent trend called "Equal Rights Week" events taking place across America every week since 2007 led by various organizations such as Women’s March Inc., Why We Can't Wait (WWE) & D’Nelson Law Firm) There have always been numerous reasons why people have come together around here including agriculture, education and business but especially religion which has always played an important role no matter how people may have interpreted it originally." - From history website lomasalinda
