Grant to sign the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which ended the Mexican-American War. In 1851, Lodi also hosted a meeting at which General Riley proposed moving California from Mexico to America. The proposal won approval from President Millard Fillmore and he ordered Riley to begin preparations for this move. In 1863, Lodi served as the capital of Nevada Territory during the American Civil War when it was merged into Confederate States of America. After Nevada lost its status as a territory and became part of the United States in 1865, Lodi continued to serve as its capital until 1872 when it moved back to Sacramento City due to complaints from other cities about noise problems caused by military activity in downtowns). The economy of Lodi changed after World War II when defense industries began production there such as aircraft manufacturers Boeing and Lockheed Martin (later Lockheed Martin Company). These companies brought many new jobs into town while contributing $5 million in economic development over 10 years according to local reports from that time period.
