Livingston, California is a small city in eastern Contra Costa County, California. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census. It is the namesake of Livingston Heights, an upscale residential neighborhood in east Contra Costa County. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Contra Costa County were Spanish Franciscan missionaries who founded Mission San Rafael Arcangelico (established 1795) and Mission San José de las Mercedes (1797). The mission area became part of Chapman Rancho El Sobrante after it was sold by Don José Chapman to Francisco Centeno in 1828. By 1851, all of Contra Costa County had been organized as part of the Mexican territory of Alta California. In 1853, United States Army Captain George Armstrong Custer reached the Bay Area through Richmond and found water supplies there he believed could be tapped for war purposes only if the Russians destroyed or damaged some other large water source on their side of Mexico City. He named his new discovery "Alta California". In 1860, when American independence was proclaimed from Spain, General Mariano Castro ordered his troops to burn down Mission San Jacinto cause its inhabitants had chosen not to sign a loyalty oath to America that would have included swearing allegiance to Mexico instead. A group of about 30 southern Californians managed to survive and started a new missions colony called La Purísima Concepción near Antioch with six priests and 24 laymen: Alvarado y Valdés founded Mission Santa Clara de la Concepcião on November 16th 1846; Fray Antonio Menéndez establishedMission Nuestra Senora del Carmen el Patrona on February 14th 1850; José Agustín Rivera foundedMission Jesús Asunción de Republica on January 8th 1861; Manuel Joaquín Mora García foundedMission Nuestra Señora del Rosario sobre el Río Pretorio on October 26th 1863; Fernando Ortiz led a force under Colonel Pedro Fortunato Licona Pacheco against General Antonio Valenzuela's forces at Encinal Creek Bridge south of Martinez on February 6th 1865 which resulted in the loss of two companies and one artillery piece suffered by Licona's command bridge over creek reported as gallant achievement but actual damage done no more than dirt berm & fence post among many others miscellaneous

Livingston is a small, unincorporated community in the Kern County of California, United States. It lies on the east bank of the San Joaquin River, south of Bakersfield and east of Fresno. The population was 1,822 at the 2010 census. Livingston was founded by Mormon settlers in 1853 as an agricultural colony. A post office called Livingston was established in 1854, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. The town had no residents from 1901 to 1910; it then increased rapidly with the arrival of agriculture-based subdivisions and railroad development. The first train to enter Livingston arrived on October 4, 1868 from Bakersfield Station. By 1880, there were three tracks running through Livingston: one north to Bakersfield and one south to Fresno. In 1902, when Southern Pacific Railway extended its line through Kern County, Livingston became part of their system and began receiving mail from other parts of California via this route. In 1951, following passage of the Interstate 10 Act (Public Law 95-562), which authorized U.S.-built highways across California except for those within city limits or rural areas subject to local control, Livingston became one of Californias few towns located outside metropolitan Los Angeles County proper
Livingston was founded in 1868 by John G. Livingston and his wife, Emma. The town was named after the Livingston Ranch on the banks of the Sacramento River. The ranch had been acquired by John G. Livingston from his father-in-law, David Bancroft. In 1870, the Lincolns established a school in Livingston and began to sell land around it for housing and businesses. By 1872, they had built a courthouse and four blocks of homes were sold to settlers who would live there until 1925 when an expressway connected Davis Valley with nearby Fremont County.
