Livingston is a small town in California, located about an hour-and-a-half east of Los Angeles. The population was 8,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kern County region. The earliest known inhabitants of Livingston were the Tongva people who live today on and around Mount Wilson in northeast LA. In 1821, landowner George Armstrong Culp granted 640 acres (245 hectares) to Lieutenant George Coombs for his military service during the Mexican–American War. In 1848, Wm. Hahn donated 1,500 acres (490 hectares) to the Methodist Church in what is now Livingston village center. The first post office was established here on February 14, 1850 with John Bechtel as its first clerk. Today's downtown business district began developing in the early 1960s when developers started moving into central Kern County to find new markets for their products after they discovered that there were no large shopping centers or other places where they could put their businesses if they wanted to keep up with neighboring cities such as Fresno and San Bernardino. As more people moved into Livingston and nearby valleys during this time, schools began opening up; one of the first was "Pioneer High" which opened in 1966 on land donated by Mrs. Alma Laddtouin after her husband died suddenly while working at a logging company near Antelope Pass Ski Resort just north of town limits. pioneer high School still operates today from its original location across from Pioneer Elementary School on State Route 95A!

Livingston was founded in 1852 as a post office and trading settlement on the San Joaquin River. In 1865, it became a town. In 1876, it became an incorporated city.
