The current population stands at about 14500 with over 6000 people living in Lindsay proper and 7000 more living in surrounding suburbs which are also home to schools, businesses, churches and other infrastructure essential forResidents’ lives. The history of Lindsay can be traced back to 1876 when two brothers named John Fenton (1844-1914) and James Fenton (1850-1936) arrived from Edinburgh, Scotland with their families on horseback after traveling distances of more than 350 miles through Canada and Mexico Territory. JohnFentonFirst established himself as a farmer while his brother James ran a woolen mill near where he had first landed in what is now downtown Lindsay. By 1882 both brothers were deceased leaving control of their properties jointly To their eldest son John Fenton Jr., who continued farming/manufacturing until 1913 & later served as Mayor 1911-1920 & 1924-1929 & 1931-1935 under City Charter No 5888-.
