In 1865, Captain Abraham Lincoln's son John Todd Lincoln moved from Nebraska to what is now California and became an entrepreneur known for cattle ranching and citrus farming before moving into politics himself in 1879 becoming Mayor of Sacramento before dying at age 71 years old. His son William Rufus Todd followed him into politics becoming Governor of California before dying at age 78 years old in 1923 leaving behind two daughters: Eleanor Roosevelt (1902-1984) who served asFirst Lady of New York City from 1945-1953; Alice Paul (1912-1975) who co-founded the Congressional Black Caucus;[1]and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (1945-2011), widow of former U2 frontman Michael Jackson.[2][3]
Lincoln was founded in 1847 and became an important center for the California Gold Rush. The city hosted the first United States Congress in 1861, and Lincoln was also the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln.
