Lemoore, California is a small town located in the remote hills of Northern California. The population was reported as 3,813 at the 2010 census. Lemoore is one of the few towns in Northern California that remains completely self-sufficient and has no formal ties with any larger city or regional center. This independent streak is what has made Lemoore an attractive place to live for many years, despite its relatively low population density. The earliest settlers in Lemoore were men who had come overland from Oregon during the Gold Rush era. The town's name comes from Spanish explorer Pedro de la Hoz, who named it after his home village of Lerma (now part of Mexico City). The first post office was established in 1868, and by 1870 there were ten residents living in the town. Lemoore quickly became known for its vast agricultural production - both crops and livestock were raised here. In 1902, when Standard Oil company founder John Denton arrived in nearby Redding to start up their new refinery, he bought some land east of Lemoore and began to build a new refinery on it. After years of construction work - which included overcoming difficult terrain - the refinery finally went online on October 1, 1911. At that point, it was one of the largest oil refineries ever built. In addition to its primary economic function as a major player in Central Valley oil production since1911, the refinery also played a significant role during World War II as part of US government efforts to supply fuel for planes flying into Japan with gasoline not available from other sources at that time. After the war ended, Lemoore resumed its traditional role as an agricultural community with limited industry until more recently when gas production came back into prominence following natural gas discoveries downriver near Redding and Shasta Lake. Today day-to-day life takes place within tight lines between subsistence farming practices and larger industrial activities; but there are still glimpses each morning of men shepherding cows around Herriman Ranch Open Space Preserve while students get ready for classes at Notre Dame High School less than half a mile away; or women boiling water on their fires at night while children play outside; or men fixing cars on Highway 99outside Ofelia General Store before working all day long inside Old fashioned Hudsons Ford dealership across town... These days you will likely find someone fishing or picking apples off their property if you're out walking around these hills this summertime!

Lemoore is a town in Inyo County, California, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It has been part of the Mono Valley area since 1879. The name Lemoore comes from a Spanish phrase meaning "the place where the lemons grow." The first white people to live in what is now Lemoore were ranch hands who came overland from Mono Lake during the winter of 1853-54. They named their new community after Santiago Alcalde, Governor of Californias Baja California region and one of the Fathers of Mexican America. After years of development by various groups including the Soil Conservation Service and Mono National Forest, Lemoore was incorporated as a city on February 8, 1913. At that time it was one of only six cities in Inyo County with an elected mayor and city council. Lemoore experienced significant growth following World War II when military housing became available for soldiers stationed in Inyo County. Many businesses were founded in Lemoore during this time such as Amoco Oil Company (now Chevron), Lockheed Martin Aircraft Division (now Lockheed Martin Space Co.), Coca Cola Refreshment Company (Coca Cola Enterprises), and Donnybrook Tire & Rodent Shop (Donnybrook Tire). On January 12, 1951 Lemoore citizens ratified a resolution creating Regional Airport District No. 2 which would operate Angeles National Forest airfield adjacent to town limits until 1959 when it was transferred to FAA control under Air Defense Command jurisdiction; however continued use by local pilots continues today as Isuzu Motorsports Ranch Airport within Highway 29 miles easting town limits which hosts fly-in/fly-out operations for many nearby aircraft manufacturers including Boeing, Airbus Helicopters etc., providing temporary landing and takeoff services for small planes up to 100 feet long or less used for agricultural purposes only at this airport operated primarily by First Baptist Church #1 located across Angeles National Forest within 4 miles easting town limits near Isuzu Motorsports Ranch Airport
Lemoore was founded in 1851 by George Lemoore and his wife, Lucy. The town was named for General Lafayette, who fought in the American Revolution. In 1872, Samuel Halsey donated land to the town for a library. The firstbuilding was a log cabin that served as the library's headquarters until it burned down in 1886. A new building was fashioned from stone and lumber and opened in 1888. In 1902, Lemoore became part of the City of Los Angeles. In 1916, Lemoore hosted the world's largest exposition of flowers and vegetables at its downtown square. Two years later, Lemoore annexed parts of Hawthorne Heights east of its original core to form a new borough called Hawthorne Heights II. In 1984, Lemoore became an incorporated city again after being re-zoned to allow housing developments within its boundaries. In 1992, it merged with nearby Ontario to become one municipality known as Ontario-Lemoore
