The first commercial applications of optical fiber were in telephone lines and cable TV systems. The town prospered until 1871, when Gold Rush fever struck the region and many miners left for new opportunities elsewhere. Beginning on April 14, 1873, James Wickersham discovered what would later be known as Wickersham Reef while prospecting for gold near present-day Bakersfield; this event marks what would later be called Wickersham's strike (the only other documented discovery onshore at that location). With this significant discovery came increased competition for mining rights within Lemoore and neighboring communities such as Borrego Springs which were also becoming increasingly prosperous because they could ship their ore directly to market instead of having to journey through Selma or downtown Lompoc

After the war, Lemoore slowly regained its former prosperity through various businesses including aluminum production and tourism until it peaked in the early 1990s with high school students enrolling in nearby Chico–Lemoore High School to gain access to quality education opportunities outside their home towns. In recent years, Lemoore has seen a increase in development due to its location within easy driving distance of major metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento County; plus its status as a bedroom community for larger cities such as Fresno and San Bernardino. In addition, Lemoore has become known for its annual 4thof July parade which features marching bands from all over Southern California as well as local products like fireworks displays on Independence Day
