In 1865, George Cady Hot Springs was established south of Lemoore on Coyote Creek by prospectors seeking water for their mines and baths. In 1875, citrus grower Julius Nylander purchased land north of town from Juan Pablo Neruda for $1 million; he built Nylander Ranch which included a grove of 100San Francisco orange trees. Lemoore became an incorporated city on December 4, 1889 with a population of 2,934 residents under the leadership of Mayor John Smeaton. The city grew rapidly during World War II due to its proximity to military installations and production centers such as aircraft plants and shipyards; it had a population of 5,500 by 1945. The post-war boom slowed down after the end of World War II but continued until the early 1970s when Lemoore lost some jobs to Fresno because of migration towards that city for job opportunities near Interstate 5 (I-5). At its peak in 1987 there were 10,000 residents in LemoORE including 3% African Americans In recent years there has been an increased focus on smaller industries such as agriculture and professional services which have contributed To dwindling local sales tax revenues while also causing some environmental problems such as high levels of arsenic present within drinking water supplies . There has been discussion about annexing adjacent municipalities like Arboga or Union City into Lemoore in order to increase tax revenue although no decisions have yet been made

Today Lemoore is known for its beautiful parks complete with ponds, gardens, streams and popular attractions like the annual Pumpkin Parade which takes place on October 6th each year
