The college campus of University of California, Bakersfield (UCB) is located nearby and has helped grow Lemoore’s economy by attracting businesses and students to its campuses over the years. Lemoore began as an agricultural community with 30 frame homes on a three-acre lot near what is now the south end of Academy Boulevard downtown. In 1905, there were only two stores in town - one general store and one post office - while 10 frame houses sat on four acres of land that today includes most of academy Boulevard between School Street and Ulysses Avenue As more people came to Lemoore during World War II to work on military bases or build housing developments around them, many new families moved into town after war ended . By 1960 there were 350 residents - about half of whom lived in old frames built before 1920 In recent decades growth has come mainly fromLMEOORE-HIGH SCHOOL which became UCB’s second campus when it opened in 1969; then came other smaller colleges such as Cielo College (now United States Military Academy) ; Southern Californian University ; and Enterprise Community College . Lemoore is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 7,593 at the 2010 census. The first people to live in Lemoore were the Ohlone Native Americans. In 1801, Spanish missionaries arrived in California and started a mission at what is now known as Mission Nojo de Santa Clara. In 1810, the Mexican government added Lemoore to its territory of Alta California. The town was platted on February 14, 1851 by Hiram Sutter and William Gorman. The town's first post office was established on May 5, 1861. The main industry in Lemoore during the early years of its existence was farming; however, over time it became an important commercial center for the surrounding agricultural region. A variety of fruits and vegetables were grown here until recent times; some still being produced today including apples, grapes, strawberries, etc., while also manufacturing such items as carriages and saddles from leather products imported from Europe. Other businesses that have operated here over time include a grocery store (1891), two hotels (1904-1920), a printing press (1921), several auto dealerships (1945-1970), two banks (1945-1970) and four churches (1881-1981). Many locally made items are still sold here such as pottery and clocks made by hand or using old technologies like kilns heated by firewood or animal fat rather than modern ovens or gas burners which produce standardized products all over the world. Lemoore has had many residents serve in local governments throughout its history: current Mayor Tom Atkins served one term from 2003 to 2007; former Mayor Donny Youngserved three terms from 1978 to 1984;current City Councilmember Lorena Gonzalez has represented Lemoore since 2017
