Lemon Grove, California is a small town in the Simi Hills region of Ventura County, California. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Pacific Ocean between Ojai and Santa Paula. The name "Lemon Grove" likely originated with a lemon tree that grew near the original village site. One of the most famous residents of Lemon Grove was writer Will Rogers who made his home here from 1907 to 1918 while living in nearby Ojai. He popularized the phrase "the best place in California" and spent many hours fishing in Strawberry Creek which flows through Lemon Grove into Pacific bluffs just outside Ojai. A post office called Lemon Grove was established in 1903, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1912. In 1923, developer Domenico Lombardi founded Lombardi's Restaurant opposite Main Street (now cornerof Nueces and Sunrise). His restaurant became one of Southern California's biggest tourist attractions for its extensive Italian cuisine including risotto with lobster or scallops; spaghetti carbonara; lasagna with meatballs; panini salad; daily specials items such aseriachi (sausage); polenta; cannoli%;igliozzi (); sorbetto d'arancia (); malted milk pudding (). Many other celebrities have also enjoyed sumptuous meals at Lombardi's over the years, including Cary Grant, Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley. Lemon Grove is a small town in Orange County, California, located on the edge of the rural Inland Empire. It was founded by Mormon pioneers in 1847 as part of the Salt Lake Valley. The population was 4,711 at the 2010 census. The name "Lemon Grove" is derived from one of two settlements in what is now Lemon Grove: One was established by Mormons to provide water for their farmstead and another, about a mile away, served as a summer home for local farmers. The town's history can be traced back to 1847 when Mormon pioneers arrived in what is now Orange County. They named their new settlement after one of two settlements they had heard about: Brigham Young's (founder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) own Zion Hill near Provo, Utah; or Rancho San Pedro de la Union east of Tucson, Arizona Territory. In 1848–49, following the Mexican War and American victory over Mexico at Buena Vista Heightsnear present-day Santa Ana Citythe settlers set out to found a new townsite just north of Lemon Grove on Missionary Ridge within modern-day Anaheim Hills. After traveling all around southern Orange Countyfor many miles they settled on an area bounded by Chavez Ravine on the west and Reseda Boulevard on the east;—an area that would eventually become known as Lemon Grove. The first post office opened in Lemon Grove on December 12th, 1850; it was renamed Gardena due to efforts by its first Postmaster General John Cranch to improve communication with nearby South Pasadena and Gardena Beach south of Los Angeles through his ranch holdings thereabouts. The population was 3 households and 14 residents at this time according to USGS records
