In 1907, citrus grower Harry Pemberton donated 10 acres (40 hectares) of his property adjacent to what is now Interstate 8 to build what would become Pacific Electric Railway's main line between Los Angeles and Riverside. He named it Lemon Grove after his home town of Lemon Lake, Michigan where he had been born in 1874. In 1924, the company changed its name to Southern California Edison Company and sold all its assets except for Pacific Electric which continued as an independent company until 1977 when it merged with Northern California Edison Company to form PG&E Corporation

Lemon Grove, California is a small town in Kern County, California. It is located on the banks of the Kern River, about 15 miles east of Bakersfield and 25 miles west of Fresno. The population was 1,644 at the 2010 census. The first people to live in Lemon Grove were Rancho de la Paloma grantees who arrived from central Mexico in 1847. They platted what is now Lemon Grove on May 20, 1853. A post office was established at Lemon Grove on October 10, 1854, and named for General James H. Lemon of the United States Army Corps of Engineers who had fought in the Mexican-American War. The first store opened at 375 W Bidwell Street on December 12th, 1856 by Jens Sorenson and Gustavus Augustus Eagleton. Electioneer John Fenton opened a general store near where it still stands on Main Street in 1861 while also running a school for children until 1865 when he built a grange clubhouse which still stands today (Griggs School). In 1870 Ephraim Fenton organized an agricultural society with himself as president; this groupowned over 100 acres including present day Lemon Grove Boulevard West between Cathedral Avenue and White Road. On November 6th 1870 they voted to change their name to "Lemon Grove". In 1898 Gifford Pinchot became U.S Deputy Administrator for Forestry under President William McKinley; during his visit to California he saw how much forest there was remaining undisturbed that could be used for lumber; he ordered all government forests in America to be cut down by 95% within ten years or face financial ruin! Some trees that were left standing after Pinchot's orders were revered by locals as icons such as Mount Diablo ( elevation: 5307 feet ) . This event helped start what would become known as “Pinchot’s Forest” . On July 7th 1906 George Washington Carver died suddenly while working near Big Bear Lake while his daughter Alice was visiting him; her husband Atticus Finch later said she always looked upon Carver’s death with sadness since it led to moreount public education about agriculture throughout America!
