The first rotary guns were made in 1836 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and was called the "Conte Rifle". The rotary design allowed for faster fire rates as well as increased accuracy because it improved on traditional muzzleloading firearms that required reloading time each time you fired. Lemon Grove, CA is a small town in San Joaquin County, California, United States. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Fresno County and borders Calaveras County to the east. The first settlers in Lemon Grove were three brothers who immigrated from Ireland in 1846. They named their land "Lemon Grove" after a lemon tree they found growing wild near their farmstead. The brothers also homesteaded other acreage around the village until they acquired over of land in 1872 when they started to sell it as block grants to farmers and men of means. In 1905, Lemon Grove incorporated as a town under the name of Danville. The incorporation was due to lack of interest by residents in continued growth within their own municipality which soon outgrew its limited resources; however, many residents took up residency in Danville for political reasons (e.g., fear that annexation by Fresno would be achieved if Lemon Grove did not incorporation). On July 15, 1907 - exactly 100 years since Lemon Grove's incorporation - Mayor Jules Ahern announced that all citizens were required to vote on whether or not to annex into Fresno because with more than 6500 people living within its boundaries it had become too crowded for two municipalities with only 2200 residents between them! Many members of the public objectsified annexation claims stating that annexed municipalities receive less government funding than unincorporated communities and this led to questions about democracy itself during what was seen as an extremely divisive time period throughout California history. As a result of this referendum results and Mayor Ahern's proclamation Lemon Grove annexed into Fresno making it one of the most recent municipalities incorporations throughout California! Since then much has changed within LemonGrove including increased development around town center resulting in more traffic jams on Main Street; however through all these changes some constants have remained such as strong community spirit and support for one another no matter how large or small our individual differences may be
Lemon Grove was founded in 1887 by John A. Lemon and his wife, Nannie. The town was named for a citrus orchard that still stands today on the east side of town. The Lemon family operated the orchard until it sold it to the California Fruit Syndicate in 1912. In 1915, the Lengthen family took over the business and continued to produce fruit until their death in 1949.
