It is located on the east side of San Joaquin Valley between Fresno and Hanford. The first settlement in Lemon Grove was established by Masons in 1847 as part of the Lemonsville Rancho grant. The town was founded on July 4, 1871 by James Waddell and his wife Catharine Arnold Waddell. The townsitenamed after lemon trees that grew near their home on Third Street (). In 1872, two brothers named Earle bought land adjoining Waddells' family home for $1 per acre (). They built a log cabin which served as the first lemon grove in Lemon Grove. In 1886, two men named Hinkley bought 8 acres (3 ha) of land adjacent to Waddells' lemon grove and began to cultivate lemons there. In 1898 they sold their holdings to John Ayer who renamed it Ayer's Orchard (). In 1906 William Ritchie purchased 8 acres (3 ha) from Ayer and began growing oranges there also. In 1922 Samuel Morse donated 7 acres (2 ha) of citrus orchards within walking distance of his home to help promote agriculture in the area; this donation has been used to maintain many aspects of Lemon Grove today including its namesake tree-lined streets and dozens of fruit-growing businesses (). After years of being buffeted by various weather patterns including drought and fires, Lemon Grove finally experienced significant growth starting around 1990 when developers started building new subdivisions within walking distance of the town center."

Lemon Grove, California is a small town located in Inyo County, California. The population was 1,752 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Mohave Desert Regional District. The first people to live in what is now Lemon Grove were Mono Indians who lived there for thousands of years. After their reservation was dismantled in 1848, many of them moved to other areas in Inyo County and started new lives. A few weeks after the Mexican-American War ended on November 14th, 1848, gold was found near Yuma and various early miners came to prospect for gold around Lemon Grove. The first post office in Lemon Grove was established on January 15th, 1850. In 1860, a group of Mormon settlers from Utah settled in Lemon Grove and began developing it as a citrus orchard and cattle station. By 1870 the Orchard had been converted into a town with a school and Presbyterian church built. The first recorded event that happened in Lemon Grove occurred on October 25th 1862 when one J F Donelson conducted an experiment with lemon juice by using it as a cleaner for cloths and furniture. On December 2nd 1862 Jedediah Smith discovered copper sulfide deposits northwest of Lemon Grove while exploring Forks Canyon Country side by side with George W Goodyear who also discovered copper mines at Gold Butte northeast of Yucca Valley about three miles east of present day Lemon Grove2 . There are several stories about how this discovery happened; some say Jedediah Smith walked across an area that looked like he might find overgrowths of silver ore but never did because he realized too late that he had walked into another mine! Another account has it that George W Goodyear followed Jedediah Smith's tracks as they both traveled along Forks Canyon Road going north; when they reached Forks Canyon Junction whereupon Jedediah stopped going further north because he thought he saw some kind of animal (probably an Elk) signifying his finding!! Anyway goodyear continued on until he met up with Jedediah again at an overlook near present day Panorama Springs National Monument which point probably marks where Smith’s tracks joined up!3 Some nearby residents said they heard someone shouting “A Mine! A Mine!” so soon after sighting such valuable minerals it could only have been George Goodyear discovering the riches - thus starting what would be known as "The Golden Age Of Mining"4 . Whatever the case may be, one thing is for sure; within months after Jedediah's discovery more men were working underground than above ground helping turn what would become Orange County into one of America's most prolific mining regions5 In 1902 there was another big development when Henry Kapp donated land to build his citrus empire which eventually became Kapp Farms & Citrus Company6 . From here until 1917 everything changed when World War I started7 ; production ceased abruptly leaving little money behind to support businesses8 ." Today much like then lemon grove struggled through WWI due to lack off wartime munitions however thanks to Leo Redding owner/operator/managing director dalton sandoval9 local farmers got state loan milking oranges during peacetime10 resulting we today’s lemon grove
