Lawndale, California is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 57,852 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Berkeley County and is part of the Berkeley–Oakland–Hayward Combined Statistical Area. The first gun pouch was patented on November 15, 1876 by Charles Goodyear and Edward Thomas Fenton. A company known as Goodyear-Fenton Manufacturing Company made these pouches from heavy cotton canvas with metal studs sewn into it to hold rounds or pistols. Pistol pouches were also made for various other uses such as farming tools and boat anchors. In 1906, criminal mastermind John Dillinger used a handgun holster created by Leland Stanford Jr., owner of Stanford Arms Company in San Francisco to help establish his identity within the underworld during prohibition Era America. The holster had four loops that could be fastened around the wearer's waistband to keep it secure while driving or walking; this helped him blend into society without drawing attention to himself too closely. On July 29th, 1927, three weeks after he became leader of the new Hollywood gangsters called "the Outlaws" (later renamed "The Syndicate"), Dillinger shot dead Sheriff Virgil Earle Moss in Lawndale after a dispute over control of a pipeline near Paramount Studios

Lawndale is located on the east side of Kern River Valley and extends into Calaveras County on the west side. The early pioneers in this area were farmers and their families who grew corn, beans, wheat and other crops during the 1800s. In 1885, a group of men organized as the Western Federation of Miners to fight for wages and better working conditions for miners in southern California. They built a large factory near what is now downtown Lawndale that employed many people including current Mayor Rich Rossi. In 1906 when Justice Samuel Tilden was nominated to be US Supreme Court justice by President Theodore Roosevelt it became clear that he would not serve because he had supported mining interests in Nevada instead of fighting for social justice issues such as women's suffrage or child labor laws. This made many people nervous so they began planning their next move – setting up homes around what would become downtown Lawndale to create an enclave that could be considered independent from Sacramento City Limits which surrounded them on all sides like a fence. This enclosing movement started with Judge Augustus Kelley who purchased land east of Main Street between Mission Boulevard and Berryessa Road and laid out streetscape features such as planted trees, sidewalks and granite driveways leading into his home which still stands today (Kelley House). Other residents quickly followed suit until there was enough acreage available to support a town! When news spread about this new town growing up right behind them, business owners opened shops inside lawndale limits creating what is now known as "the mall". In 1957 Mayor George Kivelian formed the first Municipal Utility District (MUD) in Kern County which included parts of Lawndale including Carlsbad Village (now called Rancho Bernardo) north of Interstate 5; Sunomee south of I-5; Bakersfield proper; Topanga Canyon east of Angeles National Forest Highway 14; Jurupa Valley south off Route 66; Imperial Beach south off I-805; Needles north off State Route 190/I-680/SR 87); Saugus Reservoir east off SR 99/SR 73

As a result of this growth, many businesses closed down or relocated their operations to other cities during the late 1960s and 1970s; however, some businesses have continued to operate inLawndale through various incarnations such as local restaurants and gas stations
