In the early 1800s, Lathrop was a small farming town in the San Joaquin Valley. It was home to about 500 people and gun hammer history began there. Gun hammers were used to pounding nails into wood during the construction of farms and other buildings. After the war ended and jobs began to return to local businesses, however, growth slowed and decline set in during the late 1990s as competition from larger communities increased and enrollment at local colleges declined. In recent years there has been some resurgence due to development around Interstate 5 (I-5) which has led to job growth along with new development near town center including a large convention center and shopping mall which have revived old streetcars that once stopped at the edge of town on Franklin Street

They began building radios and radar antennas so that they could detect any German rockets being fired at America! The gun hammer was also important during World War II because it allowed soldiers to break open enemy fortifications easily by using just their hammers and spades!

Lathrop is located on the Colorado River, about halfway between Bakersfield and Los Angeles. The first permanent settler in what is now Lathrop was George Atherton in 1873. In 1875 Jens Jensen established a store here which was the nucleus of what would become today's town. The first post office opened in 1880. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and (1%) is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,858 people, 626 households, and 476 families residing in the town. The population density was 116 people per square mile (47/km²). There were 715 housing units at an average density of 49 per square mile (21/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98% White; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; 0% Pacific Islander; 2% from other races; and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latinoof any race were 3% of the population.
