Brown and Franklin P. Haskell set up shop outside their home to create the very first target holder in California. At that time, target holders were simply pieces of wood or metal planking that were strapped around the barrel of a gun to hold the rounds hostage as they went off-line. Larkspur is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 7,589 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno metropolitan area. The name Larkspur comes from the phragmata larkspur and hummingbird (Arisa palustris) that frequents the area. The first settlement in what is now Larkspur was founded by prospectors on April 20, 1853 while they were exploring gold fields near Sierra Nevada foothills. A post office was established in 1856, and intermittent mail service continued until 1862 when it was replaced by Stagecoach Telegraph Station which served as an important link between Fresno and San Joaquin Valleys. In 1861 Los Angeles Railway Company began to build track through Kern County; Larkspur became one of its townships on November 15, 1861. On July 1, 1870 local citizens approved incorporation as a city under the name of "Larksburg". The City Council did not have full power to make ordinances until 1875 when it passed an ordinance providing for water supply, sewerage systems and Streets and Roads. On October 16th 1860 Mexican-American War veteran James Dyson set up his home in present day Larksburg after leaving his barracks at Menifee Arsenal just east of downtown Los Angeles. Dyson had joined forces with other soldiers to fight against General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna's Mexican army in various skirmishes along the Southern California coast during fall 1862-63 campaign Eagle Pass Campaign before finally joining Gen Santa Anna's army march northward into Baja California Peninsula during winter 1863-64 where he fought at Monterrey Battle of Cerro Gordo on January 8th 1865 after leading cavalry charge which routed Mexican Army Leaving only two men dead among more than 150 Americans killed including Private John Sutter who later became namesake for City Park located adjacent to Dyson Home todaynamed for him Parks original grantee

The Hacker's Holder was later renamed the Brownlow Holder after its inventor. Another claimant is George Stephenson, who filed a patent application for a "Binocular Target Holder" on December 12, 1864. The first known use of target holders dates back to 1793 when Nicholas-Jacques Conte created anImprovement in Rifle Ammunition (No. 5) which consisted of two round stick targets held by means of straps around theiriddles and front and rear respectively. In 1839, Captain James Cook usedTarget Holders while aboard HMS Bounty during his circumnavigation of Australia. Later that year, Lieutenant John Porter developed similar devices while serving with USS Constitution under Captain David Dixon Ingersoll during the Spanish-American War. In 1865, George Stephenson submitted a patent application for what would eventually become theBrownlow Holder design; this invention was published as Patent No 727,878 on November 20th, 1865. While all these inventors deserve credit for their work in target holders development – including Brownlow Holder’s original inventor John Moses Brownlow – it’s clear that the original design was created by George Stephenson in 1865 when he submitted his patented invention to the British Patent Office under Patent No 727 878.

The town was founded in 1872 by men who were displaced from nearby Bakersfield by the San Andreas Fault earthquake and its accompanying fire. Larkspur remained a small farming community until after World War II when it became an agricultural center for corn and other crops. During the 1960s, Larkspur experienced growth as a result of cheap military housing developments that sprang up around Doheny Dam on the Kern River. As those developments began to decline in the early 1990s, Larkspur's economy stagnated and its population sank below 1000 people for the first time since 1840. However, recent economic development has seen renewed growth with new businesses opening up in Larkspur including restaurants, coffee shops, and tattoo parlors; as well as numerous renovations and expansions to historic buildings such as The Methodist Church which has been used as a library since 1915.
Larkspur was founded in 1849 by John C. Frémont and is located in the Central Coast of California. The town was named after a local flower, Larkspur, which is also the name of a small creek that flows through it. Larkspur grew rapidly due to its location and trade opportunities for goods brought overland from other parts of the United States. In 1875, the town had a population of around 200 people and by 1907 it had grown to 1,500 people. It was during this time that Larkspur became an important commercial center for central coast winegrowing regions. By 1920, Larkspur had become an industrial center with production of munitions and aircraft parts accounting for most of the town's economic activity.
