Larkspur is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 30,851 as of the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern side of the San Francisco Peninsula. Larkspur's history can be traced back to 1849 when it was founded by Jedediah Smith and his family as a small farming community in what is now known as the Central Valley. In 1868 Larkspur became part ofthe City of San Francisco. The earliest evidence for housing in Larkspur dates to 1849 when Jedediah Smith and his family settled in what is now known as the Central Valley. By 1865, businesses had been established in town and an post office was opened. A year later Larkspur became part ofSan Francisco and its first mayor was Edwin Shaw. In 1870 a new water tower was constructed within sight of town square and soon after other buildings were erected including a hotels and stores. By 1880 Larkspur had become one of the most important agricultural towns on the peninsula due to its rich loess soil which could produce grain, hay, cotton, apples, potatoes and many other crops. In 1915 Major General John J Pershing arrived at Fort Point Navy Yard on Golden Gate Bridge for his famous Second World War military drive across America which started with Operation Torch in North Africa before continuing into Europe In 1951 Larkspur incorporated as a city under state law following years of planning by Mayor Forrest Hargrave Larkspur experienced rapid growth during the 1960s with construction ongoing along State Route 12A from Interstate 80 eastward until 1970 when that freeway was built through downtown eliminating much-needed streetcars traffic .During this time much new housing development took place along State Route 12A with high-rise developments such as Bechtel Tower becoming available for purchase near Interstate 580 .Alsoduring this time many large businesses moved into town including Chevron (now Wells Fargo) , Kaiser Aluminum (now Alcoa) , Pacific Gas & Electric Company (now PG&E) Larkspur has seen some significant redevelopment since then including several mixed use projects such as One Market Plaza whichopened in 2007 adjacent to both State Route 12A commuter rail stationand Kaiser Aluminum Stadiumwhichopenedin 2009 adjacent to Diablo Park Race Track
Larkspur is a small town in Kern County, California, located on the west side of the San Joaquin Valley. The population was 1,903 at the 2010 census. Larkspur is part of the Salinas–Kern City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town began as a stagecoach stop on the route between Marysville and Stockton. By 1868, Larkspur had a post office and two stores. In 1872, an act of Congress designated Larkspur as one of twelve towns in California to receive funds for railways under the Morrill Act. Larkspur's first store opened in 1874. It became a general store and bank before being merged into the First National Bank of Fresno in 1912. The bank closed in 1971 but reopened as a branch of SBA Federal Savings Bank in 1982. Larkspur has been home to the LarkSpur Puppet Theatre since 1951 and was once known for its long green beans called "garden peas". Today, many businesses operate within Larkspur including: an agricultural equipment dealership; two pet shops; three restaurants; several art galleries; and two churches (Anglican and Lutheran). The town also offers golf courses (the only one in Kern County), horseback riding, bird watching, swimming, playing tennis or handball at Recreation Beach Park off State Route 152 east of town limits (open year-round), and zip lining downriver at Big Creek Canyon near Yosemite National Park during Adventurous Adventures Tours operated by Adventure Cycling Inc., which also provides day trips from nearby Madera to visit various historical sites around Larkspur such as Mission Dolores Adobe Walls Heritage Site and Ixtapa Peninsula Missions Museum & Preserve . There are also several campsites available for stay throughout much of summer months when water levels are low enough for tent camping with flush toilets/with showers available on site

Larkspur is part of the Bakersfield–Delaware City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in Larkspur were the Ohlone people who built their villages near modern-day downtown Bakersfield and White Sands Lake. In 1821, John C. Frémont explored San Joaquin Valley and discovered the Sacramento River where he named it after his home state of Massachusetts - thus beginning California's official naming sequence. In 1846, prospectors found gold in what is now Kern County and began mining for gold here. The town developed around this new industry and by 1868 had a population of 350 people. By 1886 there were over 2,000 residents living in Larkspur with a total value of $2 million dollars in investments from miners and merchants alike. In 1907, two brothers founded the Owens Valley Gold Mines Company which became one of the world's largest gold production companies before going bankrupt during World War I due to overproduction competitor ore prices falling too low (). However, during World War II Owens Valley Gold Mines was used as an airbase by the U.S Army Air Forces for bombing raids against Japan (). Today some ruins remain from these raid days including an old airbase control tower still standing offshoot of US Highway 395 into town (and used for public tours)
