Its average monthly temperatures are about 66 degrees Fahrenheit (19 degrees Celsius). The coolest temperature ever recorded was 31 degrees Fahrenheit (−1 degree Celsius). annual precipitation averages just over two inches (51 millimeters), falling mainly during winter months when there is almost no rainfall at all . However during summer months there can be some light rain showers occasionally which do not usually result in measurable totals

Larkspur is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bakersfield metropolitan area. Larkspur was founded in 1887 by John and Nellie King as a small rural community on the edge of Kern County's San Joaquin Valley. Larkspur was named for an Australian flower, Lark (Dianthus annuus). In 1887, John and Nellie King were driving from their farm near Saugus to visit family when they saw an Indian encampment near what is now Larkspur. They decided to name their new settlement after the Australian flower because it sounded like a place where people could get away from things "bigger than themselves". The King family ran a general store and grocery business in Larkspur until 1925. In 1939, Larkspur joined with other towns in Kern County to form the Bakersfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. Today, Larkspur remains one of its most populous communities with over 2,000 residents living within easy commuting distance to both Los Angeles and Bakersfield
Larkspur was founded in 1851 by Captain Joseph Meeker and his wife, Nancy. The town was named after the headwaters of the Larkspur River. It began as a small farming community, with only a few homes and one school. By 1865, Larkspur had become an important trading center for surrounding villages. In 1902, the Meekers built their first hotel in Larkspur. They were also responsible for developing the local fruit crops and cattle ranching industry. In World War II, Larkspur played an important role in the defense of California against Japanese forces. The town's military installation became known as Camp David after President Franklin D Roosevelt visited it during the war. After the war, Larkspur regained its former importance as a commercial center and saw growth in both population and businesses. In 2002, Larkspur celebrated its centennial year with several events including a parade and public dinner at their old hotel.
