Larkspur is known for its annual music festival – Monterey Bay Blues Festival – which takes place during Labor Day weekend each year in September/October near Point Reyes National Seashore across from Half Moon Bay on the Pacific Ocean shoreline. According to one source, up to 100 bands play at various venues throughout downtown over two days during what is considered one of Northern California's most popular music festivals

Larkspur experienced rapid growth during World War II due to its strategic location as a key supply point for Nazi Germany. After the war, Larkspur grew further as a bedroom community for Los Angeles. However, growth slowed in the 1990s as more people moved into city outskirts closer to jobs and services. Today, Larkspur is still a thriving community with many businesses and residents who are proud to have made it their home.
