In 1968, Goodyear sold his share in Larkspur to Samuel Colt Incorporated for $1 million dollars! The transfer mark associated with this sale remains unchanged today! By 1903, Larkspur had over 50 businesses manufacturing firearms including shotguns, rifles and revolvers. In 1911, Larkspur Weaponry founded its own company to make ammunition specifically for military use with the primary focus on artillery shells and mortar rounds. This company would continue to produce ammunition throughout World War II until guns themselves were phased out in favor of new weaponry such as tanks and aircraft.
Larkspur is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California, United States. The population was 4,692 at the 2010 census. It is part of Fresno County. Larkspur is located on the banks of the San Joaquin River adjacent to Stockton and Modesto. Larkspur was named for a large larkspur plant that used to grow there. The first European settler in Larkspur was George Chapman who came overland from southern Oregon in 1848. He built a cabin on the bank of the river and called it "Chapman's Ferry". In 1851, Jno. Sutter founded Sutterville on his Rancho Sacramento about north of Larkspur. The townsite at Massacre Creek was granted by Governor Gavin Newsom to John Haughton in 1908 as part of Haughton Park Lands Grant program administered by then-Governor Hiram Johnson.. In 1916, during World War I, Larkspur became known as an airfield for training fighter pilots; it operated until 1946 when it reverted back to its original name of Larkspur Airfield and Museum
