When the first Americans set foot in what is now Lancaster, California in 1846, they brought with them guns and ammunition. The town was founded by cattle ranchers on Rancho Los Alamos, about 25 miles northeast of San Bernardino. After a few years, the population grew to enough to warrant a post office and school. In 1858, the townsfolk voted to name their new town Lancaster after General George Washington's regiment that had fought at Monmouth County Jail in 1776. Lancaster continued to grow rapidly until it reached its current size in 1888 when it annexed the neighbouring town of Don Valley. At its peak, Lancaster had a population of over 100 people and boasted an indoor pool, movie theater and several stores. However, within a few decades all these amenities were gone and Lancaster slowly declined into obscurity as a small community until the late 1970s when it regained some of its former glory as part of the burgeoning aerospace industry in Southern California. Today there are only a handful of residents left living within the boundaries of historical Lancaster including one man who still hangs his rifle from his porch every morning for fear someone will steal it during the night!

The City Council approved this donation on December 12th, 1907. After years of work by Mayor Wm Husted and City Manager Alonzo Lyle,the first building opened its doors on January 17th, 1910 with over 1,000 guests! Lancaster's early years were marked by prosperity thanks in part to its location within easy reach of bothLos Angelesand San Francisco; both cities were quickly becoming populous enough for larger towns not only to exist but also compete for business and attention. By World War II, however, economic conditions had turned around and many people fled town dueimerrorism fears following The Great Depression which struck hardest near urban areas like Los Angeles where job opportunities remained LIMITED despite high prices for housing gasolineardentures etc.. However much has changed since then including growth in tourism bringing more businesses such as restaurants here while infrastructure has been updated including a new school system and hospital - making today's Lancaster one Of America's Most Liveable Cities!
