Lakewood is a town in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 2,351 at the 2010 census. It is located on the western edge of the Antelope Valley and borders Anaheim to the north and east, Garden Grove to the south and west, and Fullerton to the northwest. The name Lakewood was given by John A. Kelsey when he surveyed part of Rancho Laguna de la Cañada de Los Padres in 1851. Kelsey named his area "Laguna" for a large body of water near his rancho. In 1876, businessman Alonzo Barger bought land in what is now Lakewood from José Altuve Potrero and laid out streets that are today known as Main Street (north), Commerce Avenue (south), Spring Street (west) and Waverly Place (east). Lakewood first started shopping around for a site for its own post office in 1893 because there were no post offices in Orange County at that time. On July 16, 1893, it became one of 27 towns in Orange County when it was created from parts of Garden Grove and Anaheim. At that time it had a population of 1,000 people. By 1910, it had grown to 3,500 people with an attached schoolhouse which served as its first courthouse. The original Post Office building still stands within modern-day Lakewood; however due to fire damage done by arsonists over the years it has been vacant since 2001 until now being renovated into apartments inside According to recent news reports there has been an increase in crime rates within town limits recently with several robberies taking place right outside of town limits lately leaving residents feeling unsafe especially during night hours It should be noted though that much like most places throughout Southern California – even small towns – crime rates can change drastically depending on local economic conditions or other events going on nearby

The wartime effort also produced many local jobs such as manufacturing munitions plants and shipyards. In recent years,lakewood has seen some revitalization due to its proximity to downtown Los Angeles and its growing reputation as an arts enclave with world-renowned museums like LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum Of Art) located just down Val Verde Road from downtown lakeshore areas like Regency Park and Union Square West. Additionally, recent developments have brought renewed interest to this largely forgotten community including plans for a high-rise housing project adjacent to Union Square West as well as plans for a new baseball stadium scheduled to be built near Interstate 5 south of downtown
