The first guns that were made in Lake Forest were rifles and pistols. In 1896, the company was bought by Remington Arms Company and it continued to produce firearms until 1911. It was then sold to the European arms dealer Wintzell & Co. who also produced it until 1958. After that, production stopped and the company was used as an armory for several years before being sold to Keith Manufacturing Company in 1966.Keith Manufacturing Company produced shotguns and other firearms until it closed its doors in 1984. Today, there are only a few remaining traces of handgun manufacturing here in Lake Forest; most notably, the John C. Fremont Gun Shop which still stands today (though it is not open to customers).

Norris also established summer jobs for young men during World War I so that they could learn how to run a town (). They did not have much success farming so they turned to lumbering instead but this proved more successful than anything else so they decided to stay put and started making furniture for people who were moving around then selling it back to them once it got too expensive shipping it all over the country. The name came from Stinsonville where many people lived at that time before moving out into towns across Northern California . Eventually some residents moved out west so there were only 12 people living here when incorporation happened on December 5th 1887 . At first there was no board or Selectmen because everything had been done thru letters from away folks . After incorporation selectmens were elected thru appointment rather then election because no men wanted to be appointed . There were maybe 8 or 10 men who did what needed do when things went bad like poisonings happening hereabouts though nothing ever got proven… Thats how we ended up being able to build our own hallways back then
Lake Forest was settled in 1846 by General George Armstrong Custer and his cavalry. The town was named for Dr. Samuel Augustus Cleveland, an early settler. Cleveland had been a member of the California Mission Board and helped to found San Francisco. In 1847, Cleveland donated land to the Town of Lake Forest, which grew quickly due to its location on navigable water resources. In 1865, the first post office was established in Lake Forest with mail delivered from Stockton. By 1870, the population of Lake Forest had grown to over 400 people. A school was built in 1874 and remained in use until 1984 when it burned down. In 1850s-60s there were many mill towns dotting rural America due to cheap labor available through expansion of railways such as the Santa Fe Railroad
