Gifford was among the first settlers to purchase land adjacent to present day US Highway 101 where he built his home Pemberley House in 1870 measuring . He also laid out streets leading into his park like Oak Road (now US 1), Maple Street (now SR 101), Gifford Road, Flower Drive etc., all still extant today within walking distance of each other. In 1906, Ayer Nursery introduced Krups cereal products here becoming one of Northern California's earliest grocery stores before eventually succumbing to larger chains like Safeway or Kroger by this time across most neighborhoods around these days but Lake Forest remains notable especially due to its many well-preserved pioneer homes dating back over 100 years such as: Pemberley House (built 1870), Main Street Shrine (1898), Highland Oaks Estates Homeplace 1895-1910(?), Elk Grove Village 1909-1920(?), Knollwood Place 1925-1970(?), ShangriLa Place 1975-. Today there are several restaurants open late night including The Ritz Carlton Resort District NIGHT CLUB and much more making it one of North America’s Mostravered Neighborhoods!
