Lake Elsinore is a small city in Kern County, California. It is the seat of Kern County and was founded in 1864 by Captain John Sutter. The city's name comes from the Kernal Mountains which form its eastern border. The cities of Bakersfield and Visalia share their borders with Lake Elsinore to the south, east, and north respectively. The first knives were made in Lake Elsinore by Native Americans who hunted game in the area. In 1875, Captain George Cushing collected some of these early blades at Tejon Pass while on his way to sell land he had acquired in western Kern County. He donated these knives to the American Museum of Natural History where they remain on display today. In 1886, Mayor Frank Elam established a public park near downtown that was known as "Elam Park". This park served as a center for entertainment and education during those years. One of the first events held at this park was the dedication of a statue of General United States Grant alias "Sutter" which stood at one end of an footbridge overhanging Elk Creek. This event also included an exhibition depicting knife making techniques used by various Native American groups including the Mono tribe . In 1916, Mayor Harry Fenton established "Fenton Park" adjacent to Elam Park which became home to both parks until they were merged into one entity in 1968. During World War II, many local businesses took part in providing food for military personnel stationed at Camp Pendleton within town limits. Some notable installations include: Naval Air Station North Island (now Edwards Air Force Base) and Camp Pendleton Ammunition Plant . As container shipping grew increasingly popular throughout California during the 1960s, larger ports like Long Beach became available for shipment through Lake Elsinore instead of nearby San Francisco Bay Area ports like Oakland or San Diego . As a result, more people moved into Lake Elsinore and its annexed areas during this time period creating significant changes both physically and socially . In 1966, mayor Edwin Shriver designated "Lake Shore Drive" as an avenue specifically for pedestrians rather than vehicles allowing access for more people to enjoy quality open space without having to leave their homes . Today this designation remains an important factor when looking at lakefront property adjacent to Interstate 5 close to other major metropolitan areas

Lake Elsinore is a reservoir in the Mojave Desert of Southern California. The lake was formed by the overflow of Monterey Peak Dam when the mountain peak slid down the slopes of San Francisco Mountain. The dam is on State Route 162, about 15 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. It has a surface area of 141 acres and a volume of 1,027 acre-feet. The first inhabitants were Mono people who lived near where the river flows into Lake Elsinore. They hunted deer and other game near the mouth of the river and used to catch salmon from above the water's edge. In 1847, Mission Santa Catalina built a small mission on an island in front of Today's visitor center (just north of where today's reservoir is). A year later, missionaries Father Junípero Serra and Father Fernando de la Hoz established another mission at what is now known as Mission Dolores onshore at Lake Elsinore Reservoir. In 1901, voters in Los Angeles County approved bonding $13 million for construction of Ulysses S. Grant High School on land east side of present day Interstate 5 between Highland Boulevard and UCLA Boulevard (now part of campus). Construction started in 1904 but was delayed becauseof World War I; it finally began in 1918 and was completed in 1924. It was one of only two high schools built westward along I-5 during that time period; the other being West Hollywood High School which opened just east off Ventura Blvd., across from UCLA.) The university moved from its original location on Wilshire Boulevard to its current site with buildings including Memorial Stadium (which houses both football & basketball games) across from Lake Elsinore Park in 1930. On July 14th 1951, University President James Earl Ray died suddenly after dinner with friends at his home leading to concerns that he had been poisoned by communists following his unsuccessful run for governor against Govus Arnold Schwarzenegger 4 years earlier

Lake Elsinore is a large, deep, and picturesque body of water located in Orange County, California. It was named after the ancient city of Elsinore in Italy. The first Europeans to visit the area were the Spanish in 1542, who made contact with Mono Indians and traded goods. The English visited it in 1768 during their exploration of California. They called it Lake San Antonio because they thought that it was near Santa Ana River (now less than a mile from the shore). In 1854, the United States acquired part of Rancho Santa Anita from Juan Vasquez de Coronado for $10,000. When Don José Garza y Costilla purchased Rancho Santa Anita from Vasquez de Coronado in 1885 for $500 per acre, he changed its name to Elsinore Farms and Community Park. The town was incorporated on November 12, 1886 by John Pemberton as Bakersfield (later renamed Lake Elsinore). By 1900 there were over 1,200 people living in Bakersfield; however, only about 100 were employed in manufacturing or agriculture. With World War II raging and war production moving to more centralized locations throughout California due to wartime shortages of munitions and other materials,[1] industry began to decline rapidly at Elsinore until it closed altogether by 1965. After years of being abandoned by developers,[2]Elginores economic revival began with a new development project called "The Lakes" which aimed to regenerate what had been lost during the downturn: riverfront retail space on one side of town along with cultural events on the other side.[3][4] Today there are over 3,000 people living within walking distance of downtown Bakersfield while also providing ample employment opportunities for locals[5][6]. In keeping with its history as an agricultural center[7],the core businesses operate within agriculture but support non-agricultural activities such as services such as lawn care and home cleaning; additional businesses have opened up around town since 2000 including an arts district that includes several galleries/ museums along with restaurants and nightlife venues[8]; two business districts - North District [9]and South District - offer unique shopping experiences not found anywhere else[10]; while another district - West District - has revived old industrial areas into vibrant neighborhoods filled with arts organizations[11].
The Elsinore War of 1812 was fought between the United States and Mexico. The war started when a Mexican vessel, the Pueblo de Elsinore, sailed into U.S. waters without permission and landed two Americans, John Quincy Adams and James K. Polk, on its deck to demand passage back to Mexico. The Mexicans turned violent and began firing on the Americans, which led to a shootout that killed one American and wounded six others. Adams went ashore with what he thought were emergency supplies in order to rally his forces and called for reinforcements from California. On July 26th 1812, Commodore George Vancouver arrived at Monterey with 9 warships loaded with more than 2,000 men including artillerymen and marines under Lieutenant-Governor Manuel Micheltorena. Adams ordered his men to surrender but they resisted until reinforcements arrived from San Francisco (the capital of Alta California) who put an end to the fight by bombardments from their ships that destroyed most of the Mexican navy at sea.
