Laguna Woods is a sleepy town in Orange County, California, United States. It is located on the 16-mile Laguna Woods Parkway and it has a population of just over 7,000. The town was founded in 1909 by Virginians Harry and Marion Davies as an agricultural community to produce fruit for the Los Angeles market. In 1932, Harry Davies donated 320 acres (130 hectares) of his property to Laguna Woods Golf Course. Over time, various businesses have been built on the golf course including a post office, bank, doctor's practice and several homes. In 1951, Pacific Gas & Electric Company constructed a hydroelectric power plant on the east side of Laguna Woods. This plant increased the population of Laguna Woods by 100 people and made it one of PG&E's " customer communities". The company also built two other plants in Orange County - one near La Jolla and another at Corona del Mar - which added 1,500 jobs during the early 1960s. During these years there were no public schools in Laguna Woods; students attend private schools or day care facilities throughout Orange County. However, with technological advances in education during this period such as computers and home schooling options became available to more students and parents. In 1984 PG&E agreed to provide free public school services within five miles (8 km) of its original transmission line that ran through neighboring Anaheim Hills into downtown Los Angeles; this led to the founding of Irvine Unified School District (IUSD) which included much of what is now Laguna Woods proper as well as portions of Garden Grove and Westminster areas south of Interstate 5 south of Center Street). According to the 2010 census, there are 1,932 people living in Laguna Woods; 599 (27%) are Hispanic or Latino residents, 8% are Asian residents, 3% are American Indian residents, 2% are Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander residents, and 0% identify as black or African American since Census 2000 data did not include those races. As per 2016 US Census estimates there may be upwards of 2 million people living within 10 miles (16 km) of downtown Los Angeles simply because so much Angeleno economic activity takes place near freeways such as I-405/I-5/US 101 etc., making it easy for commuters to access major employers like Staples Center and UCLA etc., thus resulting in less suburban homes being built outside of Downtown Los Angeles proper - well away from any potential residential areas including Lagunta woods itself! Many historians attribute early citrus farming activities within minutes’ walking distance of downtown LA with intentional dairying practices carried out by then foresters at Glendale Heights on Mission Peninsula which conducted research into water quality etching fruit trees onto trunk using a lime solution – hence becoming familiar with these tree types even before firsthand contact had occurred! This began an ongoing writing trend whereby field notes were taken during visits back then which would continue throughout subsequent years leading up to first exports from America beginning around 1850s via shiploads of fresh oranges destined primarily for London market!!!
