Laguna Woods is a small town located in Orange County, California. The population was 2,873 at the 2010 census. It lies on the border of Anaheim and Irvine. Laguna Woods is known for its dramatic cliffs and rolling hills, as well as its many preserved forests and open spaces. Laguna Woods began to be settled by Europeans in the 1800s. In 1824, Spanish missionaries founded a mission here. The Mission Indians were removed in 1846 and replaced by American settlers. They named the land Rancho San Esteban after San Francisco commandant José María Narváez de la Costa, who had purchased it from the Mexican government for $5,000. In 1907, businessman Charles Winterer bought part of Rancho San Esteban from Narváez de la Costa. He subdivided it into lots and built a house there called Laguna House (later renamed Laguna Woods). Winterer served as president of Southern California Edison Company from 1922 to 1925 and was responsible for creating Los Angeles County's electric system. He also helped develop Laguna Woods into an attractive place to live with Its rolling hills and beautiful views of Downtown LA; today it remains one of the most popular vacation destinations in Orange County It was during this time that recreational activities such as skiing, tennis, golfing, fishing and swimming became popular among residents of Laguna Woods On July 12th 1938 Don Laughlin organized what would become known as "The Big four" - himself Bob Hope ( comedian ), Gracie Allen ( singer ), Bing Crosby ( actor ) - at nearby Playa del Rey beach when they announced their plans to start shooting a movie there which would be their next stop after finishing up sound stages in Hollywood . For nine months they used local sand beaches for scenes on Long Beach Boulevard . That same year Laughlin opened his first restaurant - La Chilena - in what is now known as Cafe Doña Ana which quickly became one of the most popular places in town for lunch

Laguna Woods is a forest located in San Diego County, California. The Laguna Woods National Monument was established in 1932 as part of the United States Forest Service's effort to protect land that had been used for grazing and timber production since the early 1800s. The monument includes over 167,000 acres (6,700 km2) of forested land including much of southern San Diego County. In 2003, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service transferred ownership of more than 137,000 acres (5,500 km2) of the preserve to the Angeles National Forest, which also administers it as a national park. Laguna Woods has been the site of human habitation since at least 10,000 BC when people hunted and gathered resources in what is now northern San Diego County. By AD 1000 there were settlements at Laguna de la Costa and Rincon Hill on Mission Bayou in present-day Orange County; these were abandoned by AD 1300 because of epidemics caused by smallpox spores carried by sailing vessels from Asia. The first European settlers arrived in 1821 when Francisco Pico imported about forty Mexicans to work on his Rancho Los Alamitos near present-day Menifee Hills; this began what would be known as Mexican colonization of southern California. After Mexican independence was proclamation on November 15, 1846, most Ofsters left for Mexico City but a few remaindered behind to form various ranching families who ranched and farmed around La Mesa between 1847 and 1865 although they did not establish any towns or villages until after Anglo settlement began following gold discoveries nearuggetta (now part of downtown San Diego). In 1881 Antonio José de Jesus Hernandez y Costilla organized an expedition led by García Mejía into inland waters surrounding present-day El Cajon; he discovered two mines rich in silver but no sign of humans or animal life due to high levels of salt water pastures used for their herds during summertime fishing trips; this discovery led him to call himself “El Cajon” which means “the place where fish are found” even though others called it “Palo Alto” because Palo Alto Creek ran through its center just south of where he found them! On October 14th 1830 Manuel Nieto founded Rancho las Palmas alavesa about 12 mi east from modern day Westfield on Interstate 5 near today's Encinitas Boulevard; this ranch provided food for pioneers such as George Gaspar de Portolá during their journey across America starting from Acapulco Bay Colony on Mayflower ship on July 16th 1775 en route from Jamaica to Bothell Washington Territory!! Today we know that Portola Road runs adjacent with rancho las palmas today......... As time passed other families built ranches along missions bayou like Rincon Hill(1849), Alvarado(1853), Menifee Hills(1868), Santa Clara Valley(1874), Hawthorne Heights(1912), Carlsbad Caverns(1915) etc.......
