Laguna Woods, California is a community located in southern Orange County, California. It is situated on the south side of Laguna Beach and contains 809 homes. The population as of the 2010 census was 31,161 people. Laguna Woods was founded in 1901 by wealthy citrusgrower Harry Chandler. The name comes from the Spanish word "lago," meaning "lake." In 1936, Hollywood stars Ronald Reagan and Nancy Reagan spent a week at Laguna Woods before moving to nearby Hillsborough for the summer. The community has been called one of Silicon Valley's most prestigious addresses and home to many top-level executives including Oracle CEO Larry Ellison and Google founders Sergey Brin and Page. In 1966, Apple Inc.'s Steve Jobs moved to Laguna Woods after working at NeXTSTEP in Mountain View, California. After leaving Apple in 1997, he lived at his old home until it burned down in 2003.—

Laguna Woods is a small town in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. It lies on the eastern bank of the Sacramento River. The town began as an agricultural community in 1856, when landowner George Laguna subdivided and sold 640 acres (250 hectares) of his rancho de las Pulgas (later Rancho Laguna), located near present-day downtown Laguna Woods. Asrapa (now Atascadero) was founded nearby in 1857 by two Spanish missionaries, Pedro Menéndez and Francisco Fernández. In 1868, American millionaire John Sutter purchased part of Laguna's rancho for $5,000. In 1870 he built a sawmill and gristmill site on what is now called Sutter Creek Road east of downtown Laguna Woods; this mill became known as Sutter's Mill after him. In 1875–76 Leland Stanford acquired title to the Rancho La Purísima from Menéndez and Fernández for $2 million (). With this purchase, Stanford laid out a new townsite – today’s downtown – on 4 square miles (10 km²). He named it Stanfordville after himself and laid out streets that follow hills overlooking Lake Kaweah () to avoid any potential confusion with Atascadero or La Jolla Cove (). The first post office opened in May 1876; by 1888 there were 5 stores, 2 banks, 9 churches (), 2 school districts (), 3 physician offices (), 1 insurance company (), 2 newspapers (), 1 ice cream parlor ), 4 hotels (& 2 motels)), 16 residences (), 12 enterprise buildings (). Many structures still stand including: Parsonage Building (); Women's Annex Building (); bank building (); Gymnasium (); stables (); tennis court (); fire department building (); 200-foot long pier ()); Robert Hutton House ()); Edward Diller House ()) after Diller donated land for it in 1922 (). He also built many homes east of downtown including: Hutton House ; Old Mission style houselot off I Street ; McClure/Cunningham House ; North Beach house () which has been preserved as the Museum of Modern Art Education Building . A few other houses not mentioned here were built such as: White Sands house () north of Main Street between Ortiz Avenue and US 101() - used by movie setters during production of "Carrie" in 1976; Chalk Pit house () north side between US 101() and Ortiz Avenue near NBA home court ); Apple Blossom house () off Ortega Boulevard just east of HWY 101(); Mulholland Drive house () southeast corner between HWY 101() & US 101()); Pioneer Cabin (); Glenwood Springs mansion ()) which overlooks both lakes Kaweah & San Lorenzo Bay). Today most notable landmarks are city hall across from US 101(), Cathedral Basilica Of Our Lady Of Peace next door to San Luis Obispo High School (.9 miles south), old post office building across from Stonington Aquarium (.7 miles south), university campus across from Golden Gate Park (.6 mile west), Leland Stanford Mansion (& Gardens - visitor center & museum next door))
