Laguna Woods, California is a small town located in Orange County, California. The population of Laguna Woods was 5,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Anaheim Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Laguna Woods" comes from the Ohlone word "lahunah," meaning 'a place where one can swim'. In 1824, two brothers by the name of Kelley and William Hahn bought a tract of land that comprised present-day Laguna Woods from Jose Sanchez. They named their new plantation after their family's home in Lahunah, Ohio. In 1851, Christopher Semon founded San Fernando Valley Sunnyside School on his property east of Laguna Woods. This school served as a model for later educational institutions such as Westlake Village High School and Fullerton Union High School in Anaheim Hills and Huntington Beach High School in Huntington Beach. In 1907, Fenton Matson donated $5,000 to buy land adjoining his old citrus orchard near present day Disneyland Park so that people could enjoy swimming there without having to go into Disney's park. The gift became known as Matson Pool because it lies on the border between Laguna Niguel and Disney World (the pool still exists today). The community rapidly grew around Matson Pool during the decades following its donation; original structures built along Oso Road include a post office (1910), grocery store (1912), bank (1914), movie theater (1920), church (1922), tennis courts (1927) and more than 30 homes/condos/apartments/hotels between 1912 and 1967 when it closed its doors for good due to budget cuts by then-Governor Edmund G Brown Jr.. Today only fragments remain of this once busy community including remnants of an old clubhouse still standing on Oso Road next to Interstate 5 which housed the library from 1913 until 1971 when it was sold to Fullerton Unified Schools District #1 for use as an athletic training center . Lagunta Woods was listed on both US National Register of Historic Places listings for Orange County (#78836 & 788869) in 1990 & 2004 respectively

It is part of the Riverside–San Bernardino–Ontario Metropolitan Statistical Area. The original Laguna Woods was an unincorporated community located on the eastern edge of present-day Laguna Woods and east of Anaheim Hills. The name "Laguna" comes from Rancho La Guadalupe de la Paloma y Los Olivos, Mexican land grant given to Jose Maria del Valle by Governor Manuel Nieto in 1835. In 1881, a post office was established at Laguna Woods with the name "Valley Grove". In 1902, Disneyland opened its gates and soon after many residents moved there to enjoy the new park before it went bankrupt in 1954. Many homes that once stood within this CDP have now been replaced or demolished as part of development around Walt Disney World over time including: Crystal Palace Pavilion housing a movie theater and other attractions from 1904 until 1959; Lighthouse Pointe Apartments built in 1905 near what is now Downtown Disney; and Forest Lawn Village which housed some of the last remaining examples of Mission Revival architecture in Southern California before it fell victim to vandalism and decay starting in the 1970s. Butch Jones Stadium played host to both American football (NFL) games during Super Bowl VIII between Miami Dolphins (then called American Football League) and Baltimore Colts on January 30, 1967 as well as their following season's game on February 4 1971 between these same teams when both leagues merged into AFL for that season only to be reborn as NFL again six years later with then-owner Bob Kraft buying back rights from Ted Thompson among others.
