Laguna Hills, California is a small town in Orange County, California. The population was 9,998 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of Anaheim Hills and bordered by Irvine to the north, Glendale to the south and Dana Point to the west. Laguna Hills is part of Los Angeles County. The first people in Laguna Hills were Native American. They built their homes near what is now Whittier Boulevard and Main Street. In 1847 they sold land that they had acquired from Mission San Gabriel Arcangelico for $10 per acre. A school was established in Laguna Hills in 1851, and a post office called "Laguna" was opened in 1865. The name "Laguna" likely came from an Indian word meaning "the deep ocean." In 1886, about 150 German immigrants settled here for a season as citrus pickers working on new orchards being developed around Orange and Huntington Beach Counties. Soon after they arrived there were two schools- one for white children (Johns School) and one for black children (Fulton School). In 1888 John Fenton became owner of Lagunatown which extended from this section of town along downtown streets including Main Street all the way to Dana Point Boulevard

By 1917, most of the houses and businesses had been built and Laguna Hills had its own telephone system and water tower. During World War II, many Japanese Americans were imprisoned at Topaz concentration camp near Irvine while awaiting transport to incarceration camps across America. Some residents did not want their homes invaded by Occupation troops so they formed an anti-war resistance movement led by José Ortega y Gasset that successfully resisted government attempts to Utility snipers on their property during the war years. After liberation, some of these Resistents moved into Laguna Hills where they created a small agricultural community nicknamed "The Gasset Place". Laguna Hills experienced rapid growth following World War II when millions of people came postwar to live in cities such as San Francisco and Los Angeles; however, much like other rural areas throughout California struggling during this time period with scarce resources such as jobs or transportation options outside of town Limits because Interstate 5 ran directly through it – Laguna Hills experienced tremendous problem housing development due to overpopulation leading developers seeking easy access to cheap labor within commuting distance from those making money off real estate prices rather than investing long term in developing quality communities around these properties.– Today’s Residents
