Doheny was an entrepreneur who also played an important role in modernizing Los Angeles County by creating public transportation systems and building highways such as State Route 5 (now US 101). He was also instrumental in helping to establish downtown Los Angeles as a commercial center after World War II boomtowns like Hollywood were destroyed by fire or abandoned during the Great Depression. Today, remnants of Doheny Mines Company still operate out of Villa Park along with other businesses that originated from this time period including Western Publishing Company which published newspapers such as "The Californian" and "Los Angeles Times" until it merged into Time Warner Publications Incorporated in 1994; First American Insurance Companies which supplied property insurance services until 1984 when they merged with GEICO; Powerscourt Jewelers which made cameo appearances on Broadway beginning around 1925 before coming to LAX where they finally closed down operations at their original site near UCLA Medical Center prior to demolition starting in 2002; Banco Mexicano de America which operated a branch store at Terminal 4 of LAX until its closure following deregulation later that year; Allied Signal Corporation which manufactured power supplies before being acquired by Xerox Corporation and then sold to Sony Pictures Entertainment Incorporation; Arroyo Seco Aluminum Mining Company (ASM) which mined aluminum sulfide deposits off Long Beach Boulevard east of Interstate 15 until it closed down due to high metal prices during the 1990s although some evidence suggests ASM may have been involved with organized crime activity related to smuggling aluminum across international borders during this time In recent years, there has been significant redevelopment taking place within Laguna Hills boundaries including much-needed housing developments such as Harbor City Estates development adjacent to Sunridge Boulevard while Crystal Coast Estates occupies former industrial lands just north of I-15 exit 228A/US 101 south of Valencia Drive adjacent to Irwindale Raceway); Marriott Hotel & Tower complex completed between 2003 - 2007 adjacent to Shoreline Golf Course & Spa Resort while adult Swim properties are under construction immediately adjoining Corona del Mar beachfront park complete between 2009 -present
