In 1876–77 Mexican placer miner Francisco Pacheco found silver near present-day Willowbrook in Coyote Canyon; this led to increased silvermining activity in the area by Mexicans and Anglo miners alike during the 1880s and 1890s due to good ores being found at shallower depths than where gold had been seen before (<30 feet).
