This description led to John Cranch's map of 1849 which showed what is now Lagunta as part of Rancho Rincon de los Libres Mexican land grant given to José María Pico by Governor Manuel Micheltorena on February 14th of that year. On October 10th, 1878 another land grant, this one for 6 square leagues (20 acres) at Rancho San Luis Rey had been awarded to Antonio Pasco and Vicente Ferrer with some modifications including a line running south from Encinal Pass across Estero River Valley towards Mission Bay then following Mission Bay Road back towardspasco property before joining Rincon de las Casas property near present day Lompoc just north of the old mission Adobe Walls site where Pico's father Francisco Pico once lived and died-Pico having acquired title to it in 1785 upon purchase from Juan Bautista Carrillo Alvarado who held it under grants made between 1768-1775. The original residents were David S Wright and his wife Sarah Bernhardt who were both born in Germany but raised here until they moved to America when they were only 19 years old in 1881 after their parents' death there while Sarah was still pregnant with David's 2nd child Paloma (now known as Katherine Bernhardt).
