The first gun target in Lafayette, California was a blacksmith shop on Main Street in 1847. The first rifle target in the city was an old post at the corner of Second and Elm Streets in 1853. Rifle targets were also set up at Waterman's Lumberyard on Third Street and near the roundabout where today US 50 crosses First Street.
Lafayette is an unincorporated community located in Kern County, California. It lies on the eastern edge of the Weed and Seed Valley and is closest to Bakersfield. Lafayette was founded in 1887 by a group of farmers led by W. H. Dillon. The post office was established at Lafayette in 1888, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1960. The Lafayette area has been inhabited by Native Americans for more than 2,000 years. The first European to visit this area was Portuguese explorer Ruy López de Villalobos in 1525. In 1821, American soldiers under General Alvarado conquered and burned Mission San Gabriel Arcángel and its mission chapel in what is now eastern Riverside County. A week later, they took possession of Rancho Cucamonga and began building some mansions there as part of their conquest of southern California. In 1848, after Mexican president Andrés Pico surrendered Mexico City to US forces during the Mexican–American War, American citizens founded the city of Los Angeles on land that had been part of Tejon Rancho since 1795. In 1860, when Los Angeles became an incorporated city under state law (the first in California), it had a population of about 30 people; by 1870 it had grown to over 100 people due to waves of immigration from Europe and Asia. During the late 1800s and early 1900s Lafayettians built many well-known homes such as those at 5th Avenue and Vine Street (now 15th Street), Westwood Boulevard between Fairfax Avenue and Lankershim Boulevard (now Van Nuys Boulevard), Northridge Boulevard between 85th Place/Evelyn Road/North Hollywood Way/Wanchain Drive (now Hollywood Boulevard), Eastside Drive near Pershing Road (now Mulholland Drive) – all now within walking distance or short drive from downtown Lafayette proper – as well as many smaller homes across Santa Monica Mountains neighborhoods like Westwood Highlands or Canoga Park. These houses were usually two stories high with one or two bedrooms upstairs and one or two bathrooms downstairs; many were still standing today despite being long past their original expiration dates given their pre-war popularity among affluent22-year-olds living in adjacent neighborhoods such as Beverly Hills and Malibu who could afford them then but no longer can. Many Lafayettians also bought large tracts of land along Calumet Avenue eastward from downtown which formed much of modern South Pasadena including La Brea Tar Pits Preserve State Park today’s Midtown Pasadena district headquarters for Southern California Edison companies Guggenheim Museum Art Gallery including movie production facilities rented out by MGM studios etc., now bounded by Exposition Park on one flank, Sepulveda Blvd./Ralph Bunche Library Branch on another flank … Seventh Street NE [then called] Ballantine Ave N [Now Olympic Blvd.] bordering Koreatown across Ventura Harbor] extending northeast into Skid Row…. One can visualize how these areas would have looked if not for recent development: streetscape changes consisting primarily of filling in wetlands caused by new housing developments lining up behind old fields reaching down into creek beds underlying older properties; loss or destruction wrought by fire decades ago although often never realized because owners either moved out before doing so or kept much documentation hidden away until recently incidently discovered during renovation schemes currently going on around here! It should be noted that while some buildings remain extant even though standing outside traditional tourist destinations like Old Town Lafayette proper some have been torn down entirely leaving only skeletal remains visible above ground level thanks largely to efforts made recently by a group led by philanthropist Dr Jerry Jacobs whose nameakes property includes most if not all former homes along Ballantine Ave N between Olympic Blvd./Ninth St NW [Now Orchard Rd.] configurations listed above]. Despite this picture having latter day negative symmetry it is nonetheless an interesting visualization that allows us to glimpse aspects both good (eastern end lost in redevelopment)2 while also revealing important aspects considered negative overall - remembranceagos go hand-in-hand with nostalgia becomingimura
