Airguns have a long and varied history in Lafayette, California. There are references to airguns dating back to the 1800s, but it wasn't until the early 1900s that airguns truly became popular in this community. The first recorded use of an airgun in Lafayette was on October 12, 1892 when three men were shooting at pigeons from a rooftop. The first real success with an airgun took place on February 2, 1903 when two young boys, John and Harry Hewitt, used them to shoot at a crow that had made itself at home. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, airguns were often used for target shooting and hunting small game such as rabbits or squirrels. However, by the turn of the century they had become more common among people who enjoyed using them for fun as well. In 1909-10 there was a series of events called "The Golden 21" which saw twenty different local businesses participate in gun shows throughout Fresno County. Airguns were prominently featured in these events and many people soon began to learn how to use them safely. By 1920-21 there were over one hundred licensed shooters in Lafayette Parish alone and it was becoming more difficult for individuals to find venues where they could enjoy target shooting without fear of getting injured or causing property damage. This led to the development of what is now known as "the old rifle range", located near downtown Lafayette. Here individuals would come together to shoot rifles off long distances while also enjoying traditional Louisiana dishes like crawfish etouffee or blackberry pie (a dish that can still be found today). One of the earliest successful efforts using airguns for sport occurred on November 15th 1924 when five friends - Billie Jean Goudreau, Joe Hickey, Roy White Jr., Normand Lalande and Bobbie Goudreau - set out traps with shotguns at Brownsville Lake behind their house. They managed to catch ten fish each while spending around two hours per trap! This was only their second attempt but it was enough to set up another conventional trap range at nearby Big Meadows Wildlife Sanctuary! From here they regularly competed against other huntersin various tournaments until 1968 when regulation rounds started being mandatory!

Lafayette is a small town in Inyo County, California, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. The first people to live in Lafayette were the Bakers who settled there in 1847. A post office called Lafayette was established in 1851, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The town of Lafayette began to form around two churches – First Presbyterian and Missionary Baptist – which were both built on land that had been donated by Capt. John Cranch. Cranch donated 5 acres (20,000 m2) of his Rancho San Bernardino property to the church organizations on July 6, 1868 as part of their settlement of western California. He also contributed $1,000 (equivalent to $ today) towards the construction of both buildings. In 1886, when Southern Pacific Railway reached Lafayette from Sacramento via Cottonwood Heights Boulevard and Empire Mine Road, railroad officials decided that the town would be its terminus so they built a depot at what is now Main Street and College Avenue just east of Church Street. By 1888 there were over 100 residents living in Lafayette – many working for Southern Pacific Railroad or local businesses such as J & L Millington Boot Co., Dry Goods Store No 2 (now Macy's), Masonic Lodge #27 and Post Office #1 (now closed). In 1911 during World War I American Expeditionary Forces - British forces landed at Moraga Valley near present-day Fresno; this event is generally known as D-Day Normandy Landings because General Dwight Eisenhower's supreme command Directive 3 dated June 6th issued " ORDER OF THE DAY" calling all units south of Anza Bay into battle on Omaha Beach only those with combat experience could participate or be detached for duty elsewhere; these troops then marched north along I-5W under USMC general Omar Bradley's orders up Highway 97 where they met elements from XXX Corps led by Lieutenant General Sir Geoffrey Keyes... After 15 miles march keyes' corps came upon an open field about 8 miles long [the French village] Bois de la Hache... On reaching it keyes ordered his men up close to enter it without trenches or dugouts! This exploit has been generally recognized as one of history’s most dramatic battlefield events; aftermath study revealed few if any casualties among either side due mainly to rainforest cover...) After World War II Lafayette absorbed parts of nearby Redding while Atchison Topeka And Santa Fe Railroad abandoned trackage through town limits between 1951 and 1957 primarily because development within town limits outstripped growth along tracks closer to Interstate 5
