La Verne is a city located in southern California, on the east coast of the U.S. state of California. It is one of the most populous cities in the state and it has a population of over 154,000 as of 2019. La Verne was founded by Donner Party members John C. Frémont and George Atherton on July 20,1849 as Fort Necessity after they reached the mouth of Los Angeles River on July 17,1849. The city was named for Italian war general Alessandro Vallejo de la Riva y Costilla (1768-1836), who had been killed in action at Sutter’s Fort six months earlier during the Mexican–American War. The original town site that became La Verne was located on what is now known as Pala Mesa Boulevard and Empire Boulevard near Point Mugu naval base and west of present-day downtown LaVerne. In 1851, José Joaquín Murillo built a small adobe house at what is now Pacifico Street and Peralta Avenue to serve as City Hall; this house still stands today and can be seen from downtown LaVerne across Mulholland Drive. In 1853, Manuel Nieto started importing goods fromomingo Mexico using an old stagecoach route running through San Diego County; he renamed his business “Nieto & Co., merchants in goods fromomingo Mexico” to reflect its new international focus. By 1857, several other businesses had also opened within laVerne: Fonda de la Bodega (now Wells Fargo Bank) at Empire Boulevard/Pala Mesa Boulevard; Hacienda de los Olivos (now Agua Caliente Milk Processor) at Empire Boulevard/Pala Mesa Boulevard; Mercado Mexicano d'Amsterdam (later Macy's Department Store) between Masonic Temple and Imperial Air Force Base off Airport Way near present-day Veterans Memorial Park northwest of Downtown LaVerne; Tejas National lucas store inside then current day Honda Center northeast corner Main Street/Rancho Bernardo Road south side opposite freeway access). In 1861, Donner Party member John Wesley Powell visited Southern California while exploring Onondaga Lake during his exploration party led by Captain James Wolkoff which included future president Teddy Roosevelt participated in partibusying upriver fromlatitude 41°14′N to 39°48′N along what would become Interstate 5 toward Phoenix proper – making Powellthe first person ever documented snowmobiling or skiing anywhere in North America when he did so near La Jolla Lagoon just north of Doheny Dam about two weeks later on February 26th 1861 (). After arriving back home via ship early March following their journey downriver Powellreturned to Northern California with plans to explore Sutter's Gold Rushtown more fully but never carried out those plans due 1st American Civil War(). After Donner Party's aborted crossing into Arizona over White Sands Pass on February 14th 1876 (), founder George Atherton decided upon returning home via ferry instead which arrived safely back at Monterey Bay aboard USS Crescentime about 25 miles offshore Hermosa Beach Californian port authorities promptly confiscated all remaining artifacts found ashore including supplies cached overnight before departure such as tents,, bedding,, cooking utensils,, water pitchers,,,, etc., resulting in some very public embarrassment for Atherton who spent $1 million acordingly trying unsuccessfullyto get his tribe back onto boats heading back upstream only for them eventually being restored by court order less than a year later Laverne changed hands numerous times before becoming partof prior portionsOfCityofLosAngeleson January 3rd 1889 when parts OfCityofLosAireswere transferredTherefromalongwiththeirfillingsomeone HundredAndEight ThousandSeven Hundred AndSeventyTwoPeople

The city of La Verne, California was founded on December 12, 1867 by Mexican-Americans. It became a U.S. town on July 20, 1912. The city’s history is intimately connected with that of the surrounding region and its people. In 1867, the area now known as La Verne was part of Rancho San Carlos del Norte. José Altamira purchased the Rancho in 1868, and built a ranch house known as the Alta Casa de la Trinidad (High House of the Trinity). In 1870, he sold the property to Manuel Nieto for $5,000 pesos ($128,000 current value). From 1870 to 1876, José Altamira ran a huge cattle-raising operation at Rancho San Carlos del Norte which produced more than 10 million head of cattle. In 1886, two brothers named Lorenzo and Miguel De Anza bought Rancho San Carlos from José Altamira for $2 million (the equivalent of $48 million today). They renamed it Rancho La Brea after their mother’s birthplace in Barcelona Spain; then they subdivided it into homestead lots and started selling them to Californians who had recently immigrated to America during the late 1800s boom period. After years of struggling against increasing competition from other ranchers in what is now Riverside County*, De Anza & Co., Developers decided to move eastward into Los Angeles County* in order to take advantage of new transportation opportunities opened up by railroads such as Union Pacific Railroad*. This decision saw La Verne grow rapidly due to its location just off State Route 1 between Temecula Canyon and Corona Heights*; its strong commercial infrastructure including a banking center*, streetcar system*, post office*, public school*, hospitals*; and its easy access both north and south via Interstate 5*. By 1922 there were over 2,500 residents living inLaVerne*. La Verne is a city in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. La Verne was founded on July 24, 1851, by Don Pedro Menéndez de Avila and Juan Bautista Alvarado. It became an incorporated municipality on March 14, 1915. The population of La Verne increased from 3,500 in 1890 to more than 50,000 by 1910. In 1916, LaVerne voters passed a resolution authorizing the creation of a city hall that would be located at Fifth and Mission Streets. On January 1, 1917, the city hall was dedicated and served as the home of the City Council until it moved to its current location in 1938.
