The city experienced rapid growth during World War II as it became known for its production of aircraft parts and munitions. The war led to increased demand for materials used in combat, which caused prices for goods such as steel to skyrocket. As a result, many businesses closed or merged into larger ones; however, La Verne still remained an important manufacturing center after 1945. The city experienced another period of rapid growth following the passage of Proposition 13 in 1986 which limited property taxes within Los Angeles County (and therefore within city boundaries). This change had a profound impact on LaVerne because it made it difficult for local businesses to remain open while large companies were able to move their operations outside LA county altogether (resulting in job loss and declines in revenue). However, business owners quickly began redevelopment efforts that have helped revive downtown LaVerne since 2000. Overall, La Verne has seen significant economic progress throughout its history
