A post office called "La Quinta" was established in 1868 by James Laughlin with five letters but no number because there were no buildings yet standing in this locality so mail was delivered by horseback or wagon over trails running through other parts of country until1870 when an omnibus service began between La Quinta and San Bernardino Junction (now Riverside) using wagons pulled by teamsters across sand Hills Run into town where passengers alighted and walked to their destinations without being boarded again!
