In addition to its many attractions, La Quinta is also well known for its unique architecture which includes Victorian-era homes and rancho style buildings dating back to the mid 1800s. The city’s rich history began with its founding on January 24th 1858 when J.D. Richardson took possession of 640 acres (250 hectares) of land northeast of San Francisco Bay that he had purchased from José Joaquín de Arguelles y Cámpora grantee for $5 per acre ($2/km²). After years of construction work and land acquisition, Richardson’s new town came into being on October 15th 1860 when all residents were welcomed by Governor Manuel Nieto at the old Mission San Gabriel Arcángel complex east of downtown Los Angeles. At first called “Rancho de las Palomas” (Palo Verde), it was renamed “La Quinta” after José Aparicio Robles Adrián who donated 330 acres (130 hectares) adjacent to Rancho la Mesa for use as a parkland settlement named after his patrimony near present day Escondido CA along Santa Barbara County lines – an event celebrated annually by both communities with free admission on New Year’s Day since 1868! During the late 1800s and early 1900s there were numerous efforts made by local farmers to create agricultural self-sufficiency through Integrated Pest Management techniques using traditional methods such as Revegetation; however these programs never achieved success because electricity became available during this time period making those practices more difficult or impossible without prohibitive expenses or negative impacts on production yields; however some early successes have been reported anecdotally about increased yields resulting from better management practices over time! Some interesting aspects about our city's past include: 1) Many famous people have lived or worked here including: Andrew Carnegie Sr., Franklin D Roosevelt Jr., William Randolph Hearst Sr., Jay Gatsby etc.; 2) One significant building constructed in La Quinta during this time period included: The Regency Ballroom at 801 N Main Street which served as headquarters for various entertainment industry figures throughout prohibition; 3) During World War II several munitions plants were developed here including: ANH Plant #1 which manufactured fighterplanes under contract from Dole Food Company; 4) Today much attention is given to antique vehicles display at two locations within town limits viz.: Chapultepec Park & Pershing Road intersection

In 1984, La Quinta became one of nine towns in California that were designated as "City of Industry" Due to its dominance in industry at that time, City of Industry has since lost some much-needed economic activity but still remains an important local center for education and commerce.
