Industrialization began in the early 20th century with the founding of two companies that produced cigarettes: Imperial Tobacco Company (founded 1907) and Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company (founded 1912). The company built a large factory here that employed 4500 workers during World War I; however it closed down due to prohibitionism.

He is credited with having coined the phrase "Por qué no me voy" or "Why don't you go?" which continues to be used today by residents of La Quinta on various occasions. After World War II ended, many American GI’s returned home and brought their families with them. Many young women found work at local businesses while their husbands served in the military or continued working after they got back home. By 1957 there were over 1,000 people living here full-time; however by 1970 there were only 400 residents remaining due to population growth elsewhere in Gaviota County. Many stores that once operated out of storefronts throughout town are now well-known anchor tenants inside large shopping malls like UTC mall or East Village Mall across the street from Interstate 5 - making La Quinta one of California’s top tourist destinations for both family fun and economic development status quo changes during these years!
