La Quinta, California (formerly Rancho La Quinta) is a city in southern Orange County, California, United States. The population was 41,553 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. La Quinta's name comes from the Mexican land grants that were made to ranchers by Governor Manuel Nieto in 1847. Namely Rancho La Quinta and Rancho San Luis Rey de la Palma. The first post office for Los Angeles was established at what is now known as Sixth Street and Prospect Avenue on July 5, 1896. In 1907 it moved to its current location at Seventh Street and Imperial Highway. The city was incorporated on February 14, 1912 as an unincorporated community in orange COUNTY with a population of just 13 people; however, it rapidly grew due to the influx of workers coming out of southern California during World War I and II. On November 16, 1951 City Council voted unanimously to change the name to La Quinta because it had become well-known throughout Orange County for its summer resorts including Laguna Beach (the original home of Disneyland), Anaheim Hills (now known as Universal Studios Hollywood), Cypress Hills (now called Imagineering), Buena Park (now home to Kaiser Permanente Hospital), and many other areas including several golf courses and tennis complexes like El Mirage Racetrack which still offer betting opportunities today! In 1984 City Manager John Sothern recommended that citrus crops be replaced with less thirsty desert plants so that water usage could be reduced through more efficient use of recycled water supplies such as greyhound racetracks which used until recently for irrigation purposes only! An agreement was reached between growers and city staff whereby LAQTuA would recycle all greyhound racetracks’ effluent into potable potable water supply makingLAQTuA one stop before going into urban residential neighborhoods causing few complaints until then! After years of negotiation both sides finally came up with a deal where while each side receives 50% their share back from the common fund they will also receive an environmental monitoring fee every five years which will help offset any environmental damage done from non-compliance!still not perfect but much better than nothing

Today, much of what once made up La Quinta has been replaced by modern development including shopping malls, office complexes, restaurants, hotels and homes. However, there are still pockets of historical charm remaining such as Old Mission San Fernando Rey (the first mission founded in Alta California), which remains one of La Quinta’s most popular tourist destinations.
