La Puente, California is a small city in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 30,705 at the 2010 census. La Puente is located on the eastern edge of the Inland Empire and is bordered by Riverside to the south and east, Fontana to the north, and Ontario to the west. It occupies a bend in State Route 101 between two long valleys: The Valley ofthe Moon and The Valley ofthe Sun. The name "Puente" means bridge or road in Spanish. A ford over this route crossed a river called Mono near present-day La Puente in 1769—four years after Mission San Gabriel Arcángel had been founded hereabouts. This old path led then via Redlands through what are now parts of Riverside County (then part of Mexico) into San Bernardino County; but when Mexican troops burned all American towns along this border during 1846–48, most Americans decided to emigrate rather than fight for Mexico under General Antonio López de Santa Anna; so about 6800 people came overland from southern California under Rufus King's command (King's Crossing). After gold was found at Sinkiang hills southeast of Los Angeles in 1848, many men prospected there for several months each week beginning in October 1850; but no discovery was made until December 25 when an American team consisting of George Sutter and John McLaughlin discovered a rich vein on Ubarri Hill just east of La Mesa (now Ceres), about 2 miles away from where Pico Rivera Dam now stands. When news spread that money could be extracted from this new find “in any hour or day” large Democratic meetings were held throughout Orange County to consider ways best to secure its shipment back East before it ran out! In late January 1851 Jno.[n 4] H[e]ardt arrived here with his wife Mary H[e]adt who had married him while he was still living at Stockton; they brought their six children with them including Harry V[a 5]. At first they worked on making bricks which were used extensively throughout Southern California as building materials although later some became involved in oil production. After Jno.'s death Mary H[e]ardt continued managing household affairs until her own death in 1893 without her husband ever leaving home again although he did manage some aspects of marketing Gritstone Minerals products even though he could not actually see these things happening!

El Paso de la Raza, also known as La Puente and Mexican Villa, was a small rancho located in what is now Orange County, California. It was founded by Antonio Lopez de la Rúa in 1781 and named for the town of El Paso, Texas. The Rancho La Puente comprised about 4 square miles (10 km2) of land on the east side of San Diego Bay. The area had been used by the Ohlone people for centuries before Europeans arrived. The first European to visit La Puente was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on October 24, 1542. Spanish explorer Hernando Cortés visited El Paso on November 16, 1546 and claimed it for Spain. In 1781, Antonio Lopez de la Rúa purchased the Rancho La Puente from Marcos Serrano for $1,000olla/. On December 20 of that year he sold it to Manuel Nieto who renamed it after his father-in-law José Nieto y Costilla. Manuel Nieto died in 1802 and his widow sold it to José Delgado y Pavón who changed its name to Rancho La Puente en 1814. In 1835 Josefina Castro married José Arce y Pacheco whose family owned part of the rancho until 1862 when they sold it to Luís Alvarado Carrillo who donated it to the University of California at Berkeley in 1882 as a gift from his wife Clara Barton Carrillo Alvarado (1851-1931). Rancho La puente became one of the largest single Hispanic agricultural holdings in California with over 2 million acres (890 km2) under cultivation between 1860 and 1930 including 1 million acres (4 km2) or more than any other county in California except Los Angeles County). American agricultureakia rapidly replaced Mexico's traditional hacienda economy during this period which left many rural residents struggling during currency shortages caused by westernization policies implemented during World War I In 1924 president Warren G Harding signed Executive Order 10450 creating a federal government land allotment program called "Farm Administration Administration" which resulted in an increase in acreage under irrigation within Mexican borders while decreasing production west of Interstate 5 near Laguna Beach due to increased competition from citrus crops grown inland After years of wrangling over ownership rights following World War II efforts were made by both sides - primarily Mexican nationals -to purchase or cede control over some parts or all of ranchoLaPuente back to their respective families In 1954 Attorney General Earl Warren announced that portionsaterritoriality laws would be amended providing that title would revert automatically if there were no claims within three years from then provided no new grants were made available During this time sporadic violence took place between farmhands andstock ranchers culminating with several deaths including one prominentánarchical figure associated with Chicanery Politicswhom President Dwight Eisenhower characterized as "the most dangerous man alive" priorTo becoming governor he pardoned all remaining owners subjecting them only to such restrictions as having their animals registered with state Departmentof Agriculture . However subsequent negotiations failed resulting Gov't sale majority interest back into handsof descendantsof original owners through donation plus compensation ..
