The museum’s Rifle Scopes Collection features over 350 rifles with scope mounts, dating back to 1854. The collection is made up of both new and used rifles, as well as shotguns and handguns. Many of the rifles were donated by local citizens or businesses, and some were even purchased from military surplus stores. It’s important to note that not all of the rifles in this collection are from America – there are also specimens from other countries such as Norway, Chile and France. In fact, many of the rifles in this collection date back to before firearms were legalized in California (1850). One of the most interesting aspects of this collection is the large number of multiple-coated optics that it contains. This variety comes from a number of different reasons: Some old telescopes had multiple coatings to protect them against rust and damage; while others were bought specifically for use with rifle scopes. Many of these optics date back to before Rifle Scopes became a popular hunting tool. In fact, one piece featured on display is an early crossbow scope that was built by John Doerffer in 1824! La Puente is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. La Puente is located on the east slope of the San Gabriel Mountains and bordered by Riverside to the south and west. To its north is Fair Oaks; to its east are missions Santa Anita and Mission San José de la Alcázar. The first Europeans to visit this area were Portuguese traders in 1542-45. La Puente was founded as part of Rancho Cahuenga de los Pinos during 1848 by Juan Bautista Alvarado, grantee of that rancho from Governor Manuel Nieto. In 1851 Mexican forces burned down most of the town center, but Alvarado rebuilt it and named it for his father-in-law Emilio Vallejo y Salinas (1805-72), captain general of Mexican Forces in Central California under president Porfirio Diaz who issued an order naming all towns after Californias important historical leaders: Alvarado, Vallejo y Salinas, Guerrero, Figueroa y Tejada etc.). In 1881 a smallpox pandemic began in Northern California and spread through much of Southern California; La Puente became one of the worst affected settlements with over 50% mortality from the disease. The city's only hospital was built on Sepulveda Boulevard near what is now Community College Westridge Campus; however, due to high fever cases frequently arriving from other parts of Southern California not enough beds could be provided so patients Bed bug infested mattresses were used instead as hospitals cots until 1943 when construction started on University Hospital which would eventually become Pacific Medical Center. In 1924 Los Angeles annexed La Puente making it an incorporated municipality with a mayor/council form of government along with full voting rights in city elections; however annexation did not change its name to La Puenta because there was no such thing as incorporation in those days before state law governing local government changed following passage of Proposition 8 which banned same sex marriage statewide (the ban did not apply to cities or counties). An early resident list for La puente includes Daniel D’Angelo (1786-1859), Manuel Nieto (1848-1902), Antonio Joaquin Zaragoza (1824-1900), Narciso Gomez Miranda (1829-1903) Augusto Chavez Ramirez(born c 1830 died 1908) Francisco Javier Echeverría Ballesteros(1853? – 1912?), John Sutter(1769–1844) & Martin Luther King Jr.(1914-) born Jeremiah Wright(bancroft 1795 d 1862)). These people may have been ancestors or others associated with this community including Santiago Reyes who settled here around 1800s according to some source he arrived with his brothers Hernando and Vicente Reyes sometime after 1800sanchildren Pedro Santiago Reyes Rios married Guadalupe Carrillo about 1830 daughter Maria del Carmen Carrillo also marriedto Agustín Garza later that yearthus creating a possible connection between this community and original Spanish settlers also living here at some point prior to 1848 according to another source . It has been claimed that many current residents were brought over during World War II when many family members enlisted or served in military units stationed here including my greatuncle Josephine Reynoso who served during World War II as an air traffic controller at nearby Monterrey Airport . In addition many natives have adopted American names such as Luis Enrique Gonzalez Becerra or Raquel Zandile Dominguez . The La Puente area of California has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s. The region was first settled by Native Americans, who named it after the Spanish town of Lápuente, which is located in present-day Vizcaya, Spain. In 1836, the Mexican government granted Rancho La Puente to General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna as part of a land grant given to him by Emperor Carlos IV. The rancho was gradually subdivided into parcels and sold off until it was purchased by John Sutter in 1879. As a result of this purchase, La Puente became one of the most important agricultural areas in California. It also played an important role in the development of the state’s citrus industry. In 1886, construction began on what would become Los Angeles County’s first courthouse and jail. The building was completed two years later and served as the county seat for much of southern California until 1911 when Pasadena took over that role. In 1912, La Puente incorporated as a city under its own municipal charter. It remained an unincorporated community until 1959 when it became part of Compton County seat pursuant to a change in local law. Today, La Puente is home to numerous cultural attractions including several museums and galleries as well as restaurants and businesses specializing in Mediterranean cuisine and Latin American culture.
