La Puente, California is a town located in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 14,591 at the 2010 census. La Puente is one of the oldest communities in Riverside County and its incorporation as a village on November 30, 1874 made it the first incorporated community in Riverside County. The early settlers of La Puente were Italian immigrants who had come to Southern California from Northern Italy. They built their homes around a beautiful wooded valley called Villa Park which they named after themselves. The name "Puente" means "bridge." In 1881, two brothers by the name of Amadeo and Giovanni Pascual founded the optical goods store called "Odeon." It was here that they began selling lenses and other optical equipment to local farmers and ranchers. In 1902, John Fenton established his own optics shop in La Puente which became known as Fenton's Optics. It remained an important part of the community until it closed its doors in 1984 due to economic conditions. In 1955, Bruce Macdonald opened his business called Macdonald's Camera Shop on Main Street in La Puente which became one of the most successful camera stores in southern California. It continues to be operation today with over 100 employees! In 1957, Don Kern started selling radios and antennas through his store on Main Street. His antennas are still sold today! In 1978, Alice Burden opened her own general store next door to Macdonald's Camera Shop on Main Street which became known as Alice Burden's Department Store. This store continued operations until it closed its doors in 1998 due to financial problems! Today, this building remains vacant and is currently used for storage by nearby businesses! In 1984, Donald Kern passed away leaving behind a legacy of success when he started selling radios and antennas through his store on Main Street in La Puente! His antennas are still sold today! In 1998-2000 there was a severe outbreak of wildfires throughout Southern California that destroyed many businesses including Alice Burden's Department Store along with many homes!! However; despite all these challenges; Donald Kern's legacy lives on through his companies: Kern Radio & Antennas (now part of Mohawk Radio) and Alice Burden's Department Store survivors continue to sell products online!.

There are few places as historically significant as La Puente, California. Not only is the city home to one of the most important post-WWII housing projects in California, but its rich history also includes a number of pioneering entrepreneurs and politicians. The city was founded by Padre Francisco Xavier Loma on December 20, 1846 as the Mission San Gabriel Arcangelico de la Purísima Concepción de Jesús. In 1871, it became part of what was then known as Alta California. On July 14, 1910, La Puente was incorporated as a town with a population of twenty-one hundred people. It would remain an agricultural community until the early 1920s when lumber production began to grow in the area. In 1916, Mayor Manuel Avila declared that La Puente must become an "International City" because of its status as the largest Spanish-speaking city in Northern California. This led to increased development in La Puente and other towns adjacent to it; however, much of this growth came at the expense of nearby poverty-ridden districts such as downtown Los Angeles which had long been overshadowed by wealthier neighborhoods within easy reach by car or train. In 1922, Mayor José Gomez proposed that La Puente be annexed into Los Angeles County because he felt that development outside of town would inevitably lead to social unrest and economic stagnation within town limits. The proposal failed to gain momentum despite opposition from many leading citizens including Avila and Gomez himself who felt that annexing La Puenta would be detrimental both economically and socially for all involved. The issue resurfaced during World War II when over two thousand Spanish Americans living in Southern California were ordered evicted from their homes due to rationing measures instituted by Nazi Germany following victory over Japan at Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941 (the attack on Pearl Harbor is often considered to have kickstarted World War II). Many OFA members were unable or unwilling to return home after being relocated inland where they could not support themselves without working for Nazi war industry (though some did manage find work). As a result of this enforced departure many individuals associated with LA’s Mexican American community lost their residential ties not just locally but statewide – something whichwould linger well beyond WWII largely due à lack of government policy or awareness towards any form cultural assimilation amongst Mexican American residents outside metropolitan areas likeLA/San Diego/. AfterWorld War II ended there was renewed interest inLa Puente among both locals and outsiders alike due principally to demographic changes within Greater LA itself: suburbanization had begun throughout most Angelenos lives while downtown LA continued growing increasingly commercialized forcing many Mexicans American residents eastward into adjacent San Fernando Valley suburbsinderring Westwood Village [or North Hollywood]]. The La Puente Adobe, also known as the Adobe of La Puente, was a historic Adobe property located in La Puente, California. It was built c. 1875 by Misael and Narciso Guerrero, and is a two-story wood frame structure with a gabled roof and clapboard facade. The property includes an outbuilding used as a stable and barn. The Guerrero Adobe was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
