La Puente was founded in 1848 as a small farming town located on the banks of the Arroyo Seco. The area became an important center for cattle and sheep rustling, and gunsmiths soon became popular options for both farmers and law enforcement. In 1865, La Puente passed its first ordinance regulating firearms, and by 1872 it had become one of the most restrictive cities in California. In 1886, La Puente passed its second ordinance regulating handguns, making it one of the last California cities to do so. By 1920, La Puente had nearly doubled in population to over 100,000 people, and gun control became an issue again. A new city hall was built in 1924 to accommodate this growth, and a brick wall was erected around the city’s borders to keep weapons out. This strategy worked until 1933 when Los Angeles annexed La Puente as part of its official municipal boundaries. In 1934 LA City Council passed a resolution opposing any future attempts at gun control within the city limits – effectively ending any local efforts at regulation. Gunowners in La Puente continued to fight against anyregulation however; during World War II they produced millions of bullets for government forces. The final nail in the coffin for gun control occurred in 1957 when Mayor Earl Warren banned all handguns from Los Angeles County – setting off a firestorm that saw entire communities across Southern California ban guns altogether (the only exception being San Francisco). Gunowners who still couldn’t find enough ammo or legal accessto purchase weaponry began engaging in guerrilla warfare known as “gun running”; this continued until 1978 when Proposition 187 legalized handgun ownership within Californian society without due process or citizen input
La Puente, California is a small city in San Diego County, California. The population was 927 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in San Diego and it lies on the eastern edge of Mission Valley. La Puente is bordered by Carlsbad and Encinitas to the north, east, and south; and Miramar to the west. The first Europeans to visit what is now La Puente were Spanish missionaries in 1769. The name "Puente" means bridge or crossing over in Spanish. In 1887, during a gold rush, some men decided to establish a town at what was then known as Bridgeport Rancho de la Mancha (now part of Rancho Santa Fe). They named their new settlement after José María Pérez y Valdés, governor of New Mexico from 1849-1855. In 1892 when Mission San Antonio Rey del Sur became Mexican territory after Californias admission into that country as part of rancho exemption treaty with Mexico City, Pérez y Valdés donated land for an agricultural school which would eventually become one of the largest educational institutions in California. After years of addition and expansion by various homesteaders including Don Santiago Alvarado (1868-1921), his son Lázaro Alvarado (1920-2001), Carlos Alberto Reyes (born 1926) who served as mayor from 1969-1975 and Francisco Javier Guerra (born 1942) served as Mayor from 1977-1981 until he was elected President pro tempore of the State Assembly on November 3rd 1981 because no one else could be elected due to term limits set by Proposition 13(). In 1992 La Puente experienced its biggest civic event when a referendum passed Measure T increasing sales tax rates from $0.50 per item up to $2 per item while also authorizing installment debt payments on newly purchased homes without interest paid until sold/renewed/repaired/or another fee paid increased home values beyond original assessed value making it one amongst many communities throughout California experiencing this type of property development boom during that time period which has continued unabated ever since through various political administrations both before and after Proposition 13(). The current Mayor of La Puente is Carmen Yulín Cruz who was elected on November 3rd 2011 following her victory over Republican incumbent Gil Cedillo
